Elected leaders can't fix inflation. If that was the case, we'd still be in big trouble as we have no ability to elect leaders in countries around the world that are also suffering from inflation. Global economy = global issue.

You're a moron. Who do you think decides how much money the government spends and puts into the economy? Who determines the fed rate? Who affects the money supply (M0, M1, M2)? Debt ceiling? Oil production leases? Gas reserves? Who talks to OPEC members? Who negotiates peace deals? Get a clue!!!! People are in charge of these matters.

Look at this money supply chart:

https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/M1SL

Look at just the incredible amount of extra money recently put into circulation since the pandemic. Its mind boggling.

ok, now explain why inflation is world wide and hitting countries with austerity spending measures in place

Explain why the economy goes to sh- - every time a democrat is in charge. Explain why gas prices skyrocket when a dem is president. When that happens everything gets more expensive. Keep saying that the dems are innocent and looking out for the less fortunate but anyone with a brain and eyes can see what’s really happening.

None of what you said is true. Try listening to some real sources to get your info next time and get out of your bunker.

What? Like CNN
No. I don’t need to listen to anything (and I don’t) to tell me what I’m seeing with my own two eyes. But you keep watching the “news” to help you cope.

Stop eating so much meat.

I came here to post the same thing.

This, OP. For so many reasons, you should be eating less meat.

Did you read her post? The OP doesn't even eat meat - this is for her DH and it sounds like he's cutting back.

Thank you for reading carefully! Yes, this is OP + I have not eaten meat for 30 years. And, I know a lot of people (especially men) who still want to eat some. We just stopped eating certain foods this summer such as avacados- once they hit $3.00- I just said "no". We are also just eating less in general.

OP, this is what is included in a popular Omaha Steaks Value Freezer Filler:

4 (6 oz.) Bacon-Wrapped Filet Mignons
4 (5 oz.) Butcher's Cut Top Sirloins
4 (5 oz.) Air-Chilled Boneless Chicken Breasts
4 (6 oz.) Omaha Steaks Burgers
4 (3 oz.) Gourmet Jumbo Franks
4 (4 oz.) Caramel Apple Tartlets
1 (3.1 oz. jar) Omaha Steaks Seasoning

This gives you 100 oz. of meat, or 6.25 lbs. It is currently 53% off, which means it is "only" $169.99. Let's assume that they are the most expensive apply tartlets and steak seasoning on the planet, and together they cost $45. You are still paying $20/lb for all the meat included, and the majority of it is hot dogs, burgers, and chicken.

If you think this is a hack, I really don't know what to tell you. You'd be better off eating all the $3.00 avocados you can find.

I wait for the semi-annual sale that offers much better deals than that and I do not buy extras like apple tarts- I make them. So many naysayers. And, what did other posters have to bring up politics? Take that to the political forum. I grew up poor with ten kids in my family, so I know how to stretch a budget. Now, my dh + I are well off because we have always lived below our means.

Because every time the Republican before them leaves a gigantic mess to clean up.

Oh Lord I guess it wouldn't possibly be because the previous Republican President left a gigantic mess? Nope, definitely couldn't be that....

We've cut out most meat and dairy from our diets. I spent $140 for our family of 4 to eat the entire week (kids pack lunches). We spent closer to $200 until we cut out most meat/dairy. We do still get certain cheeses when they're on sale.

Cabbage is awesome as a filler and really healthy for you. If you are in a rush, you can get a little bag of coleslaw cabbage and use that. Yes, it's more expensive than a head of cabbage, but it's still cheap.

I fell in love with cabbage in the heart of the pandemicv
Mu shu stir fry; colcannon (cabbage, potates, leeks, bacon), zesty coleslaws to fill sandwich wraps

OK - so what's your average per-pound cost for meat?

If you are citing "buying Omaha steaks on sale" as an example of stretching a budget, I am guessing that it's your DH who is responsible for your family's financial success.

That would be sexist to assume. I am a lawyer + husband has MBA. No college loans/no parental help. We worked during college + respective law school/MBA school periods.

I make a lot of variations of Asian noodles and fried rice. That uses much smaller quantities of meat.

I haven’t been so affected by the price increases, maybe $10-15/week because I’m a nanny and one of the DCUM poors. I just refuse to pay $4.50 for bagels when they used to be $2.50, so I don’t buy bagels. Same with bread. I’ve cut out a lot of things I used to eat, just because I won’t pay the price increases and now make food from scratch. I feel like the poors will fare better, only because we know how to tighten our belts more than DCUM with their designer goat cheese.

Interesting take. I am rich + I never bought a bagel over a dollar. Total ripoff.

Inverse - I’ve recently started buying more meat and wine and a few ready made meals and my bill has shot up so much. So don’t buy those things or cut down on them if you’re looking to get more for your budget. Seasonal tip: pumpkins are cheapest at Aldis.

We mix ground beef with pink slime 50/50 and no one knows the difference. I’m thinking of using it for for our neighborhood cookout.

Our ‘take out’ nights are handing $20 to the kids and sending them down the Trader Joe’s frozen food aisle to get an item they each want. I serve with a salad.

I use the left over rotisserie chicken meat to bulk up soup we buy from our local deli. Throw in a few frozen veggies or beans and some more broth and my serving for 2 now serves 4.
