2023 6A boys lax outlook

The others of course will be in the mix but I think Warhawks and Bruins are clear pre spring favorites.

When do the pollster start their rankings?

I have Madison slightly ahead based on depth and coaching. Agree the top 2 at LB are overall better. “Official” preseason rankings probably a week before the regular season starts.

The two LB players are on offense. Madison may not concede a single face off with the Robison transfer. That keeps the ball with Madison. Edge to the Warhawks.

Let's not forget LB lost to WestPo in playoffs last year. WestPo had one D1 commit (and he was excellent) compared to LB's three commits, but WestPo just peaked at the right time.

Seems like the 24 class has no d1 commits in 6A. Is this a really down year for this class?

I think a few factors in play. Grad-year eligibility because of Covid is still messing things up for potential recruits. But I think colleges were faster out of the gate this year to get their top-line prospects. Seems like it's slowed down, but it will pick up again. And it's extra hard for public schools to get attention of colleges compared to privates.

So much of recruiting has to do with club lacrosse, is it because fewer public school players are on the top area clubs or are public school players on teams like Next Level, Madlax, VLC, etc. actually at a disadvantage?

It's about playing in the tourneys that colleges coaches go to. The top teams are invited to the top tourneys that have the most college coaches--and they look for players who impress, whether public or private school students.

IL just released additional list of three and four star recruits. Zero Nova Public school players and still no committed players in the 2024 class. This is either an off year or it is getting hard to get recruited from pubic school programs. The typical top 5 NOVA 6A programs usually have one or two per team.

The top D1 programs typically narrow their recruiting search to hs with established nationally ranked lacrosse programs. There are no nationally ranked public hs in NOVA.

Not true at all. HS rank does not matter they recruit from the club tournaments.
