The Kennedy Center is ridiculous for still requiring masks

No they're not.

I agree, OP, and we won't go until the requirement is removed. Not relaxing at all.

Songbyrd is still requiring masks, and their shows skew young.

Will really dampen the experience.

So don’t go.

Nobody cares about your experience, snowflake.

+1. We promise - no one will miss you and no one needs you to be there. The show will go on!!

Omg omg omg the sky is falling op has to wear a non invasive mask omg it’s so hard so so hard

I’d worry more about the state of the world that your boy stole $4 mill from 9/11 the First Respnders fund

But hey we all know wearing a mask is so so difficult 🤣

Sounds like the KC knows who butters their bread - old people who are afraid of COVID.

That would be my guess. Their customer base skews older and more vulnerable. Requiring masks so that a KenCen event isn't a super-spreader seems like good customer service, really.

x1000 Reading here that the rule is actually enforced is making me consider buying tickets now to some of the shows this winter. We aren't super old (mid-50s) nor do we have any special health issues but it does seem like common sense to wear a mask at an indoor event where everyone is in such close quarters.

Hamilton is overrated. People say they loved it because they would look like fools for spending that much money to see an average show at best.

You know its $99, right? Hardly a large sum of money. Its like the people complaining about Cirque du Soleil was too expensive.

Careful. Your privilege is showing.

You do know that not everyone who understands the futility of mask rules is a republican, right? Some of us are fully vaccinated Democrats who understand the data on cloth and thin surgical masks.

I don’t think it’s common sense. We didn’t do it before Covid during flu season, because the burden of wearing them was seen as outweighing the risk to immuno-compromised people. We don’t even have strong evidence that they keep people from getting the new variants.

+1 liberal Democrat here, willing to adhere to all evidence-based recommendations from health officials.

Yep. Won’t go until it’s dropped. Same at Strathmore and Adventure Theater where I like to take my kids (or did before the mask insanity).

Oh yes because everyone wearing a mask is actually going to keep you “safe.” Wear a fitted n95 and you’ll be fine. Me wearing a cheese cloth mask (which is what I wear when forced) is not going to do jack for you.

Total speculation on my part, but if the cast/crew are unionized, the requirement could very well be part of their contract.

DP. You do you and stay away from performances, then. I've been to plenty, I wear an N95 or sometimes a KN95 (so... not "cloth and thin surgical masks" because I, just like you, "understand the data" on those) and most of the people I see there are wearing KN95s and N95s. The few who are indeed wearing surgical masks tend to be older people, who likely are more vulnerable if they catch Covid. Whatever. At least their exhalations are somewhat covered and most of the rest of us are wearing effective masks and enjoying the shows, and not thinking about those of you who turn up your unmasked noses at venues who are setting their own rules they way they want. Follow the rules or don't go. It's simple. Whine about "the futility of mask rules" all you like but it won't get you through the door of any venue where they require masking and won't affect those of us who are glad to be there, period.

From another fully vaccinated Democrat who wants to go to the theater far more than I want to make some point about masking.

They're unionized for sure. Few industries are as unionized as theater, film and television, which is a good thing.
