Priced out of McLean and Arlington

So much McLean hatred. How spoiled are you? People all over the world trade places with someone who has access to the public schools and amenities of McLean. It doesn't have to be the world's most exciting place to be valuable.

Many people aspire to live in McLean, but it takes money. The envy on this forum is rampant and not very attractive.

Of course, most of those priced out find another place to live without drama, which makes me think OP is a troll.

No, I grew up in McLean, and my parents owned a place there since the early 80s. It's a miserable place to live and grow up. Really, nobody desires to live in McLean for the quality of life. Maybe they aspire because they *think* it's an affluent place, but it's really just a depressing sh!thole.

I grew up in nova and yeah I don’t recall anyone ever dreaming of wanting to do anything but leave here. Most of my local friends who grew up here have moved out of this area.

I would dream of moving to Peru or Iceland or something. Not some lame DC suburb like Arlington or McLean LOL.

What are you smoking? I grew up in DC and Arlington. All my Arlington native friends are still living here or around the DMV. Who the heck wants to live in Peru unless they have family there?

People don’t dream of living in Arlington. Grow up

People who have been out priced of Arlington and live in Baltimore or Fredericksburg or spotsylvania and work near Arlington do dream of living in Arlington or nearby. Not everyone is rolling in it.

LOL people don’t move to Fredericksburg or Baltimore and dream of moving to Arlington. They move to Fredericksburg or Baltimore because they want to be in Fredericksburg or Baltimore.

You make it seem like Arlington is the center of the universe.

I can see if you said Alexandria or Springfield. But Baltimore?

Nope. Do you know anyone who lives in Baltimore or Fredericksburg because they want to? Alexandria Springfield and Arlington are close to the majority of the government jobs that most of the DC area has.

Falls Church City is not less expensive than Arlington or Mclean.

Not a per square foot basis, but the median sales price for a SFH in FCC is a good bit lower than the median sales price for a SFH in McLean and about the same as in North Arlington.

i.e. not cheaper. I doubt OP is looking for a 6000+ sq ft McMansion.

For a regular 3-4.5k house, no price difference between the three. But FCC’s inventory is very limited.

FCC is smaller and cheaper.

That exists all over the US. Nothing special about that

Mclean has good schools and easy access to DC and Tysons.

Mclean has almost no walkability and most stores are still in strip malls. Also for 90% of Mclean have to drive and park to take metro.

It’s a true suburb all around.

Very few places have among the highest concentration of expensive homes in a metropolitan region, are situated between two major jobs centers, have the top two public neighborhood high schools in their state and their state’s top private school, have the best shopping in their region, and are close to multiple Metro stations and two major airports.

They didn’t move there just because they wanted to move to Arlington. Like wtf?

South Arlingtonian here looking to move within South Arlington. They are priced out of both if they’re looking at SFHs. It may be slightly more affordable than North Arlington, but it’s not affordable, not unless you already have your foot in the door with equity or a giant assist from a trust or parents or something else. The “starter” homes are going for $900K and anything more updated or larger or with more land, etc., just goes up from there. Lots of “starter” home tear downs, too, being replaced by $1.5 new builds, leaving the “starter” home inventory even smaller and the entry market that much more competitive.

A lot of people rent in Mclean so their kids can go to the schools and grow up with connected friends. Then they move when the kids are grown to a cheaper place.

Sorry no one can say that with a straight face. Not sucking our thumbs here.

People want to move closer to jobs, people, good schools, neighborhoods, etc. Baltimore and frednecksburg doesn't have that.
