Priced out of McLean and Arlington

Where to look next? I dreamed of living in either of these two places and I’m crushed. I can’t even imagine where I can move now.

Budget, commute desires, do you have kids who need public schools, other wants/needs? So many questions to be able to answer this.

Falls Church City or Vienna. Reston if you don't need public schools.

What kind of home do you want?

Smaller townhomes and condos are available in Alexandria and occasionally a SFH is reasonably priced.

Reassess your priorities. There is inexpensive housing in both communities but it may require compromises - a condo or townhouse instead of a single-family home. Or an older single-family home with no parking, or a carport instead of a garage. If you want a bigger, newer home on a bit of land, -rethink your desire to live close to D.C. - consider other suburbs or the exurbs instead.

What’s you budget OP? Falls Church City has 2 houses currently on the market, one 2800 sq ft almost tear down for 1.3 mil and a brand new 3400 sq ft one for 1.8 mil.

Nobody dreams of living in McLean, OP.

LOL this was also my thought (and I live in one of those, so not even a dig). OP, it depends on your commute, but Vienna is the one that comes to mind. If you live on the VRE, I’ve heard good things about West Springfield.

X10000

I’m in McLean, and I can directly attest to this.

Many people aspire to live in McLean, but it takes money. The envy on this forum is rampant and not very attractive.

Of course, most of those priced out find another place to live without drama, which makes me think OP is a troll.

No, I grew up in McLean, and my parents owned a place there since the early 80s. It's a miserable place to live and grow up. Really, nobody desires to live in McLean for the quality of life. Maybe they aspire because they *think* it's an affluent place, but it's really just a depressing sh!thole.

I grew up in nova and yeah I don’t recall anyone ever dreaming of wanting to do anything but leave here. Most of my local friends who grew up here have moved out of this area.

I would dream of moving to Peru or Iceland or something. Not some lame DC suburb like Arlington or McLean LOL.

You post the same thing regularly and no one is interested in your rehashing your adolescent angst. Sorry you were a misfit but you really might try moving on.

There are actually a lot of people who grew up in McLean and return here to raise a family, but you bash them, too.
