What my kids learned at school from his teachers - white people suck

This is a bit of hyperbole, but I kind of agree. I’m not even white, and I said this to my spouse.

My kid’s elementary school has a big poster when you walk in touting that girls should ‘Lead Like Kamala’. Umm, no thanks. Is this North Korea? With this crazy propaganda in our schools.

I am the mom of a smart, strong young lady. And Kamala Harris is NOT a role model in any way, shape or form.

You don’t think it is worth celebrating our first female and first black female Vice President? You don’t think that’s good for little girls, to see someone like them finally in a position of power? Do you know how hard women have fought for the right to vote, to run for office, to be electable??!

No. I do NOT think it’s worth celebrating Kamala Harris. She’s terrible. I have zero interest in my non-White child looking up to Harris as any kind of hero.

Can you tell me exactly what you think she has done as VP that should be celebrated?

If you worship her, that’s great. But schools (especially elementary schools) should not be pushing nonsense political propaganda on our young kids like this. It is actually pretty worrying for those of us who come from other countries. This is what leaders in other countries do to force their political beliefs onto the younger generation.

It’s the fact that Kamala Harris is in VP that the want kids to look up to, not her political beliefs. It’s the idea that a female can reach one of the highest offices in the land with hard work, determination, perseverance, and luck. It’s the idea of not giving up on your dreams even if they don’t seem plausible. It’s the idea that Kamala is a very current representation of that success and triumph.

You’re the one making it political.

LOL. She is a politician. Of course, it’s political.

And no, Kamala Harris did not get to be VP due to her hard work and determination.

If you want to place a value on hard work and determination (which I can agree with), then there are PLENTY of other less-famous and less-political females that the school can use as role models.

You seem angry.

Yes, anyone who has an issue with MCPS MUST be a troll.

It's not an MCPS discussion, it's a fomenting of the culture wars.

It's obvious from the start that was the OP's intention. I don't even believe that they even have kids in MCPS and just post this to cause strife.

Yeah, I kinda am. The double standard is astounding. Harris is an unpopular, inept politician.

Would you want a picture of Trump up there as a role model for kids? Likely not.

I don’t want Harris or Trump being held up as role models for my elementary school kids. They are both gross.

Explain to me why Kamala Harris is so gross. What has she done to cause such a strong reaction from you? There is no parallel between Trump and Harris. Trump is a fraud, inept, dishonest, racist, and had no business being president.

Not in the least. I AM a minority women and can think of plenty of other women who would be worthy as role models. I have some in my family, actually.

Again, putting unpopular political figures up for hero worship in elementary schools is inappropriate and divisive.

I guarantee you that there are plenty of people like me who feel the same, but who just stay quiet so that they donKt have to listen to all the insults like the ones above from the ‘tolerant liberals’.

Trump is an unpopular and divisive politician.

Why should Harris be plastered all over my kid’s school?

It is inappropriate to have huge propaganda-like pictures of either of them at a public elementary school.

Trump is an unpopular and divisive politician.

Why should Harris be plastered all over my kid’s school?

It is inappropriate to have huge propaganda-like pictures of either of them at a public elementary school. [/quote

Sounds like you feel threatened by Harris. Could it because she's a successful minority?

My youngest has a class project about role models every week. I think it's wonderful, but so far not one role model has been white- and it's April! My kid opined (and wasn't being sarcastic) that white men have been at the top for way too long because they've never invented or done anything.

She isn't but the PP feels threatened by a woman in power, especially a minority.

Nailed it!

Many of us feel differently and don't see a parallel to Trump. You seem triggered.

It’s just a motivational poster. Like the one with turkeys that says don’t let the turkeys get you down. And the one with the kitty saying hang in there. I think that one was actually part of a series that also had Play Like Megan, etc….
I think you are reading too much into it. Someone might look at the Play like Megan and say — but I hate soccer, or I hate her style of playing. That’s not the point—the point is just that this is a woman leading or playing or whatever and you can do that too, if you want. You don’t need to do it in the same way, and it is not expected that you would. I bet if you had one printed that said “Negotiate like Condi” or “Adjudicate like Sandy” they would put that up too. I think they just probably didn’t have the money to buy more than one from the series.

I’ve seen lots of propogranda posters and used to collect them from the Soviet Union. These are not propoganda posters.

Cool. That means you feel the same when someone at the school puts up a Lead Like Trump poster. Hey, it’s just a ‘motivational’ poster, right? You can’t say that you hate his style of leadership.
