Two more candidates have filed: Mike Erickson and Marcus Alzona. And Docca is officially not running again.

I'm still voting Coll (5), Yang (3), Fryar (AL); but adding Ester Wells (1). I think a Certified Public Accountant is exactly what MCPS needs on the BOE right now!!!
|
I waiting for the Apple ballot to come out. I want to support the teachers. |
|
I'm interested in the Apple endorsements, I just think they're somewhat boxed in.
I think two of them are already endorsed (unless MCEA is planning to change them). The option to Fryar is Dawn, but I have to admit she's a bit further out there than my tastes. Two of the other challengers seem to be Trump Republicans? At least on their policies? One guy was into construction? The last thing we need is someone who's personal interests could conflict. CPA seems to be a good choice to audit the books whenever the CO submits their next budget? |
Fryar seems pretty out there for me. I think he even ran as a Republican previously in a different district. Sure, some of what he says sounds good to me but a few of his issues set off alarms. |
MCEA/Apple Ballot has already endorsed Yang, Coll, and Rivera-Owen. |
Um, the option to Fryar is Giandomenico. Dawn is running WITH Fryar— they’re campaigning together for two different races. |
|
All those supporting Michael Fryar, please note he is significantly out there and a little nuts, running on a ticket with other out there candidates, Dawn Iannaco-Hahn and Esther Wells: https://patch.com/maryland/gaithersburg/calendar/event/20220423/1832343/meet-and-greet-for-the-new-dawn-for-board-of-education-slate
If you are supporting him because he is not Karla Silvestre, there are other candidates running for At Large: J. "Dominic Giandomenico" (who looks good to me) and Mike Erickson (couldn't even find a web site for him) |
Since you are publishing a statement that is damaging to a person's reputation, please explain why Fryar is "significantly out there and a little nuts"? Please be exact with references. |
Not the pp, so I can't answer the question for them (although two seconds of research myself and yeah..they aren't wrong) He put himself out there for public scrutiny by choosing to run for an elected office. His choice. He knew the risks. |
|
Did the MCEA endorse anyone for at large?
I'm on the covid cautious end of the scale. No way am I voting for Fryar. But I am pissed at Silvestre for being the first to call to drop the mask mandate in schools and for saying we should never do virtual schooling again - we could have a surge where some virtual schooling is necessary. Can't find anything on Erickson. And worried the Giandomenico might be trying to signal he is a republican by saying he has worked for both republicans and democrats? |
No, they didn't. |
|
I listened to a school board debate and Scott Joftus was the most articulate and clear headed of all of the candidates in his vision for the school board. I was very favorably impressed.
I also appreciate the passion of Domenic Giandomenico and Grace Oven. |
Joftus should have a record to run on by now, but the problem is that, despite joining the board at a time that was ripe for him to step up as a leader to rebuild trust and right the ship during the catastrophe that was MCPS this winter, he only has "a vision". He's done very little to provide effective oversight and accountability to MCPS during his tenure, based on his behavior at BOE meetings where he largely nods his head and provides thanks and praise to MCPS staff for wonderful presentations (maybe with a "it would be nice if you showed us x next time on this slide" sprinkled in). We need folks on the Board who will actually do something, and lead, not just talk the talk and rubber stamp whatever comes to them from MCPS and the staff. |
So which of his opponents do you think will do that? |
