The name we picked took an unexpected turn

Oh no, I see my future. DD1 calls DD2 JuJu now. I'm not a fan, but I've stopped correcting her.

I had an great aunt named Julia who everyone called Auntie Juju. The name stuck. I have a Matthew and his twin called him Moo, Moo Moo or Mooch. He called her Enemy instead of Emily for a little bit lol. Eventually that morphed into Em or Ems which are more common nicknames for Emily.

My nephew called me Enemy instead of Emily for a while. I was sad when he nailed saying Emily!! It cracked me up!

We never figured her older sister wouldn't be able to say Nicole and would call her Colie. (Rhymes with solely) We do not love Colie, to say the least. It hadn't even occurred to us that her name could go in that direction. Just a word of caution to not only consider possible nicknames you see, but that others might see.

People in Ukraine have been forced to flee their homes. Their homes are being bombed and no so veiled threats of using nuclear weapons, which would start WWIII where a nickname would not even be in the first 200 billion of problems! Find help for you shallowness.

OP here. We can be helpful to the Ukraine people AND shallow all in the same day. We are hosting two Ukrainians and have donated $8k. I ALSO want my daughter called by the name DH and I picked out for her.

You are going to force the older child to stop calling her sister by the only name she can pronounce? This is beyond comprehension.

OP needs to lighten up and stop being a control freak.

I have a cousin named Nicole and she's been called both Nic, and Colie by family and friends. I even called her Nickelodeon when she was young.

Don't get attached to any names you give your kids. Just wait until they are teenagers and declare that you will not call them by their birth names anymore (aka "dead names") and that instead you will use their chosen names and pronouns instead. You will very quickly get over any dislike you might have had for the cute nicknames their older siblings gave them.

I love my nonbinary teens, but I laugh now at how much time my spouse and I spent arguing over their names. I doubt I will ever get to call them by those names again even though those names are beautiful and have family connections.

Me, too. My younger brother called me JuJu for years, but it didn't stick.

What a coincidence that this PP posts about Ukraine and the OP happens to be hosting Ukrainians AND donated thousands. OK

Honest question -- I am not making fun.

There are some nonbinary kids at my kids' school who have chosen names that are objects. These are not the names, but they are something like Soup. Crime. Ohio. Is this common among NB teens?

My mom had an aunt Rita, and I think she (my mom) couldn't pronounce it at first. She started calling her Petey. She was known as Aunt Pete for the rest of her life.
