The name we picked took an unexpected turn

My grandparents told my two uncles that they were going to have a new baby in the summer. So they referred to her as Summer. The name stuck and my mom is called Summer to this day (real name Sarah) both personally and professionally. When anyone asked to speak to Sarah on the phone she knows it’s a solicitor.

I have an Aunt Lala because my mother, as a toddler, called her Lala. She’s been called Lala for 67 years.

My friend named her kid "Amber" thinking it was nickname proof. Her older brother calls her Amburger. They are in their late 20s.

People with simple and straightforward names get nicknames all the time. I have an aunt whose given name is Mary and everyone calls her Momo, not because of a sibling but because when she was in grade school there was a bully who called her Momo for some reason and slowly it took over until she even referred to herself that way. Sometimes nicknames just stick.

Oh no, I see my future. DD1 calls DD2 JuJu now. I'm not a fan, but I've stopped correcting her.

I had an great aunt named Julia who everyone called Auntie Juju. The name stuck. I have a Matthew and his twin called him Moo, Moo Moo or Mooch. He called her Enemy instead of Emily for a little bit lol. Eventually that morphed into Em or Ems which are more common nicknames for Emily.

This is also adorable. Colie and New Baby for the win!

Aw, so nice to get positive comments on DCUM occasionally, thanks. I can still remember her watching me change his diaper and saying, "mommy, new baby has a tail".

I laughed. Thanks.

We never figured her older sister wouldn't be able to say Nicole and would call her Colie. (Rhymes with solely) We do not love Colie, to say the least. It hadn't even occurred to us that her name could go in that direction. Just a word of caution to not only consider possible nicknames you see, but that others might see.

This is so much of a problem for you that you took time out of your day to post this here???

Wow.

The name is Clyde. Claudio is a name in Spanish. His mom tried but inevitably would end up calling him Cloud.

My MIL has passed on but years later when he’s naughty or annoying he still gets called Cloud by me and an old friend who was around my MIL a lot. So it was a name failure in one sense but still a fond memory of my MIL.

Lol seriously wtf!

😂

Same! I actually had a similar situation in my family where it was important that the name be pronounceable in several languages.

I was shaking my head and wondering in what universe does Clyde sound good in Spanish???

Poor baby/kid/teen/adult Clyde. He'll grow into it around age 65.

I have an Uncle Jinx (real name James). He tried to use his real name at one point in adulthood but the attempt failed, haha.

People in Ukraine have been forced to flee their homes. Their homes are being bombed and no so veiled threats of using nuclear weapons, which would start WWIII where a nickname would not even be in the first 200 billion of problems! Find help for you shallowness.

You are going to force the older child to stop calling her sister by the only name she can pronounce? This is beyond comprehension.
