How would you rank these colleges?

Every other school listed is niche or local, so it would depend on your personal preference.

Tulane is popular and has a fun factor for kids these days, so that might raise it above its academics, which are mediocre.

Exactly this.

Cal is very, very highly thought of, nation-wide, but especially on the east coast (where it is harder to get in). I speak from personal experience - Cal grad that gets amazing opportunities in DC. If you kid can get in, GO!

Notre Dame is a lot of things, but it is not a “regional” school. It has more geographical diversity than virtually any college or university in the United States. UC Berkeley is obviously a fantastic school, but the overwhelming majority of its students are from California. I think the fairest thing to say is that UC Berkeley is one of the best graduate schools in the country, but on the undergraduate level Notre Dame is probably better.

This is false. Also ND scores extremely low on the social mobility rankings.

LOL social mobilit is different from geographical diversity.
More than half the students are form the same state for UVA and Berkeley - As boring as a wet weekend in Wigan
Many people choose it becasue of the discounted in-state tuition.

School 75% SAT
ND 1550
Colby 1510
Colgate 1510
BU 1500
UVA 1500
BC 1490
Berkley 1490
Tulane 1490
UMD 1460
Villanova 1460
Fordham 1430

There is a large range at each school and an interview will surface more and mean more than the SAT score. All of these schools may produce good candidates. I don't think candidates from these schools should be differentiated unless you are looking at a specific program like Electrical Engineering, where Berkeley would be the strongest and a number of them don't even have it as a major.

California has about 40 million people and many of them have come from different parts of the U.S. and the world. If it were a country it would have the world's 5th largest economy. Even Virginia has 8.5M people and has people who have come in from around the country and from foreign countries.

Key point people miss until they actually start to apply.

Cal is on top by itself.

ND next

Then everyone else

Why would anyone go to UVA over Notre Dame if tuition is same unless wants to stay near mommy LOL.

Why would anyone wants to go to the overcrowded pubic school if tuition is same unless engineeinr or CS.

The data clearly agrees with me. People have weired imagination.

This was my ranking and I attended ND so no, I don't have a "weired imagination." If I had to do it over again I would absolutely go to UVA (and a couple others on the list) over ND. ND is a strange place - either you drink the kool-aid and join the cult, which many do - or you don't. I didn't. I know that many on this board complain about UVA boosters but they don't even begin to compare to the worship of ND by its boosters.

If accepted to both

Notre Dame vs UVA
79% choose Notre Dame. 95% would probably choose Notre Dame if cost is same.

Notre Dame vs Berkeley
60% choose Notre Daem. proabaly 80% if cost is same, 20% might be CS/engineering for Berkeley.

UVA is clearly a step down from Notre Dame.
Notre Dame is ranked higher and studetns clearly favor it over Berkeley or UVA.

? That really wasn't the question though. Which grad are firms more likely to hire. I'd say in this area Uva. maybe, depends on the major of course.

I have strong views on how the Catholic church treats women, especially in view of its politics on women's reproductive health. I wouldn't trust any ND grad to view women as equal to men. Big pass.

ok there's always a minority group

Many who apply to Notre Dame are going to have a strong affinity for what the school represents and offers. It wouldn't surprise me that Notre Dame has favorable cross-admit rates with many schools until you get to the schools that are too good for even the Notre Dame leaning people to pass up. Note that even BYU is 50:50 with UVA. It has a similar draw as Notre Dame, but isn't as selective overall.

Then you are ranking schools based on your personal religious bigotry, not the quality of the academics or the merits of person standing in front of you (for which you will be sued), so maybe sit this one out, since OP clearly is not bigoted and has four Catholic colleges on the list. And don't go into HR.

Do you really think UVA grads have better chance to get hired than ND??
That is an weired imagination.

Here's a source for the employment by the best finance firms in the world.

Because everyone and anyone wants to work in finance. Pfffft

Wow, I guess on an anonymous forum people are willing to admit to illegal hiring practices. Nice religious discrimination. Guess you won't hire Muslims either. Or evangelicals.

UC is doing away with considering the SAT. Berkeley probably won't even be reporting it in future Common Data sets.
