The other part is that drugs are sold on the street as an sub economy. There are people who don’t follow the same path- college plus job and there are few protections to make a living wage. |

I really think *some* older people think these societial changes are new, and the result of things, but they don't realize the impact of social mores. And it's really odd that women especially don't fully understand how negatively they were impacted, which maybe is why they don't accept it because it changes the landscape of everything they lived up to now.
But, they shouldn't be unsettled. This boomer group led the way for social changes. Why stop now? |
social change started well before the boomers, they like other generations merely carried it along. |
Of course...it's this context I am talking about. This group, baby boomers, were responsible for the foundation of social changes that some in their generation complain about: Sexuality - all aspects Family Composition and Marriage Divorce Gender Equality |

I haven't read all the responses but a lot of this is just putting a name on things that have always existed, or allowing people to be open about it. I am 60 and I feel like it is real progress. My brother was a closeted gay man for longer than necessary. I have friends who suffered from depression but couldn't talk about it or get the help they needed. My cousin struggled with learning differences and was just labeled as dumb.
The thing I worry about is the increase in drug addiction and related deaths. |
Difference of opinion, completely. In fact I disagree with every word you’ve written |
Of course you do. Bless your heart, dear. Word of advice- time to drag yourself out of 1965. Read up. |
You cute thing. If you only knew. |
Pretty sure we all do... |
x1 billion |
Correct. OP asked what is different in the years since the 50 + crowd has matured. This is it, in a nutshell. |
Give it up guys, these people think LGTBQ folks didn’t exist until 10 years ago. |
So, this isn't an opinion. You are literally disagreeing with facts. You apparently are just way out there with some belief system. There have always been gay, non binary, transexual, and bisexual people. There are even gay animals. Nobody is selling it or creating it. You can say you don't like it, I guess, but you can't say it doesn't exist. The world has just come to meet it where it is. I had a male teacher in the sixth grade who was fired after someone tried to blackmail him with pictures of him at a gay bar. 1969. Gay male first grade teacher in 1983. His being gay was never to be mentioned, his living arrangements never to be discussed. Every now and again, a parent complains that the man, as he's " effeminate" shouldn't be teaching students. Teacher is advised to never say anything, deny it, and he keeps his job. Here we are, 2022, and the whole class has a party for their 8th grade lesbian social studies teacher who is having a baby with her wife. Moms of students organize this, food, decorations, etc. Two transexual teachers in our high school, a gay superintendent before this one, openly gay BOE members, elected officials in our legislature, and Rachel Levine and Pete Buttigieg in federal cabinet positions. So, you are pretty sure everyone is being indoctrinated? Really? |
Yet, it's not different. It's just different to you. These people were always there. |
The facts that I stated are that these things are perversions, which is true, and that they are being promoted in the schools, which is also true. Never once did I say they don't exist; that is your reading comprehension failure. I stand by what I wrote. OP asked for the "differences" from a 50+ perspective. That is my opinion and yes, it is based on facts. I don't know how much clearer I can make that for you. |
