I hate funeral processions

It's only a problem if you ignore the laws surrounding funeral processions

In small towns people still stop on the sidewalk and remove their hats or put their hands over their hearts at the approach of a funeral procession. Motorists also pull to the curb in either direction.

While you've likely attended a funeral, losing someone you love deeply is vastly different. A silly thread that reeks of inexperience.

I’m GenX, have lost both parents and two siblings and I agree it’s an outdated and unsafe practice in the age of cellphones and GPS that needs to end.

Someone keeps posting this. The DMV is not a small town. I’m not pulling over on Rte 50 or the Beltway to remove my hat for a procession, I’ll get killed. My heart goes out to these folks, but even having been a participant I hate these processions. The PP talking about highway frogger nailed it.

Just google “funeral procession accident”

Pages and pages of news stories from “small towns” detailing traffic accidents, injuries, and fatalities related to the funeral procession. And those pages of stories are just the most recent ones from the past year or two!

Craziness.

I grew up in a suburb of Richmond in the 80’s and no one did this even then. Processions with headlights on? Sure. Getting out of cars? Never.

I've been to plenty of funerals and never understood the point of processions. We'll meet at the church, then at the graveyard with a break in between. Driving in a procession is just kinda stressful and sometimes you just need to stop to get some flowers or fill up the gas or get a coffee in between. No need for us to all try to drive together.

OP, you choose to live near a cemetery. Did you really expect to not see a funeral procession?

This one is on you.

And have some decency and humility in your life. Be an adult and adapt.

Exactly. "We really should respect for grandma by getting someone killed f9t her funeral!" Like some kind of Dothraki wedding.

I just lost a very loved uncle. I didn't feel the need to drive unsafely to honor him.

I hate funerals in general and never go. I don't want one either.

Therefore, you don't need one either.

I live about three miles from a funeral home, so I expect them. I have no problem waiting, I have been in a couple processions myself from that same funeral home.

One just went by me on the way to Fort Lincoln. They have equipped unmarked, non-police cars with lights and sirens to imitate emergency vehicles and stop traffic. They zoom into oncoming traffic and up and down the line of cars with their hazards on. Isn’t that illegal?? It’s so unnecessary and unsafe.

My brother was rear ended because he was forced to stop behind a woman who'd stopped for a opposite direction funeral procession. Suffered serious whiplash. I agree they're unnecessary and unsafe.
