Is Chicago as hard to get into as Northwestern?

Evanston may be safer neighborhood, but if you say the wrong thing or express a controversial idea, the administration at NU will get with it's stupid woke students and tar and feather you
What are you on about with the "woke" crap? Students are free to say whatever they want, including hate speech, but they're not free from the consequences of their words. So if a kid denies the Holocaust was real and posts a swastika on their social media or laughs when an Asian person is beaten up or shows zero concern for the number of unarmed black males that have been killed by police officers, then they shouldn't be surprised when other students speak out against those ideas. I'm from the south and I personally prefer people to state and own their hate speech, but I've rarely seen kids not be called out for it, either verbally or silently as the other kids just moved away from them. Many kids are tired of the polarization we're currently experiencing. They were isolated at home or in their dorms, ate take out alone, attended class alone and that's taken a toll on their mental health. So when they have a chance to mingle, they want a fun, chill vibe.

And in NU, women students must deal with the predatory culture. “Survey show that experiences of sexual harassment and violence overwhelmingly affect undergraduate females.”

You have posted this same link in a bazillion other threads. I know you have some weird personal vendetta against the school, but the obsession is borderline creepy and weird.

Not really. Chicago does have more conservative voices generally, enough so that there is a pretty solid student publication (the Thinker), which is far more than you find at some campuses today. And the law school still is a more welcoming place for conservative thought that some others. Plenty of people with other views, of course, but that's a good thing.

Omg The Thinker is NOT taken seriously by absolutely anyone at UChicago. Someone's been watching a little bit too much Fox.

If you didn’t watch Fox you wouldn’t know about all the violence in Chicago. Lord knows CNN and MSNBC will never report it.

Don't mind that PP. They're incredibly salty for some reason and frequently pop up in threads that mention Northwestern to spew their weird vendetta all over the place. The above article is actually talking about how a group of on-campus initiatives led by young men are working to improve the nationwide culture of campus SA.

So it’s ok to advocate for crime victims and harsher sentences for perpetrators?

Oh okay, so they didn't literally try to destroy the life of some UofC economic professor last year who merely expressed concern for defunding the police? UChicago is as kooky and off the rails as the rest. Stop lying.

Jewish Northwestern frat boys got caught a few years ago doing a maga / antisemitic hate crime hoax a few years back. Evanston is wacko.

Freshman who had been there for barely a few months and were promptly expelled. What a waste of opportunity for these idiots. Don't see what it has to do with the comparative difficulty of admission into UChicago and Northwestern, though.

They’re both top 10 schools and highly prestigious, it’s like arguing whether Columbia or Penn is more prestigious. Or Harvard or Yale.

+1. Stop behaving like children with your d**k measuring contest over which school is marginally better.

Lol.. Chicago is nothing like this. Not anymore. The big difference is the core vs no core. Evanston vs Hyde Park and nonwoke vs woke Administration. There are tons of finance, consulting and tech types in Chicago, followed by large number of pre-meds. Very pre-professional now. Almost to a fault. They have very strong Div 3 athletics, specially in women's soccer, tennis etc.

Which is more woke - Northwestern or Chicago?

Kids are woke at both schools, but slightly less at Chicago. Administration is both spineless and woke at NU. The way they have treated their own profs because the woke brigade howled is disgusting. Chicago's admin doesn't allow it's woke idiot students to hold them hostage and bully faculty and students with their "correct thinking"

All schools are woke these days. Schools emphasizing more on STEM are relatively not as woke as those emphasizing non-STEM. Caltech and MIT are a little less than many other top 10 schools, for example. It is so maybe because the faculty and students in STEM schools have to deal with the reality of science/technology laws. Playing woke can't get that rocket to the Mars. So in this sense, Chicago is somewhat less woke than NU.

This doesn’t make sense because Northwestern generally has stronger STEM than UChicago.

Where did you get that from? How about just simply counting how many Nobel prizes have been associated with Chicago compared to NU in science. Not even comparable. Chicago STEM fields are much stronger than NU overall.

Considering that UChicago doesn't even offer engineering except in a recently founded niche sub-department, I don't think this is an accurate comparison. Northwestern is stronger in all things engineering, chemistry, and material science. UChicago is stronger in the pure sciences (minus chemistry). Both are about head-to-head in economics, though UChicago is more famous for their department. It's absolutely uninformed to characterize UChicago as STEM and Northwestern as non-STEM when the latter has more STEM offerings and has stronger research output than UChicago.

Let's also not forget Northwestern's medical school, which is better than UChicago's.
