Lol.. Chicago is nothing like this. Not anymore. The big difference is the core vs no core. Evanston vs Hyde Park and nonwoke vs woke Administration. There are tons of finance, consulting and tech types in Chicago, followed by large number of pre-meds. Very pre-professional now. Almost to a fault. They have very strong Div 3 athletics, specially in women's soccer, tennis etc.
Which is more woke - Northwestern or Chicago?
Kids are woke at both schools, but slightly less at Chicago. Administration is both spineless and woke at NU. The way they have treated their own profs because the woke brigade howled is disgusting. Chicago's admin doesn't allow it's woke idiot students to hold them hostage and bully faculty and students with their "correct thinking"
All schools are woke these days. Schools emphasizing more on STEM are relatively not as woke as those emphasizing non-STEM. Caltech and MIT are a little less than many other top 10 schools, for example. It is so maybe because the faculty and students in STEM schools have to deal with the reality of science/technology laws. Playing woke can't get that rocket to the Mars. So in this sense, Chicago is somewhat less woke than NU.
This doesn’t make sense because Northwestern generally has stronger STEM than UChicago.
Where did you get that from? How about just simply counting how many Nobel prizes have been associated with Chicago compared to NU in science. Not even comparable. Chicago STEM fields are much stronger than NU overall.
Considering that UChicago doesn't even offer engineering except in a recently founded niche sub-department, I don't think this is an accurate comparison. Northwestern is stronger in all things engineering, chemistry, and material science. UChicago is stronger in the pure sciences (minus chemistry). Both are about head-to-head in economics, though UChicago is more famous for their department. It's absolutely uninformed to characterize UChicago as STEM and Northwestern as non-STEM when the latter has more STEM offerings and has stronger research output than UChicago.
Let's also not forget Northwestern's medical school, which is better than UChicago's.
