They’re both top 10 schools and highly prestigious, it’s like arguing whether Columbia or Penn is more prestigious. Or Harvard or Yale.

Asking, "Is Chicago as hard to get into as Northwestern?" is more like two country bumpkins arguing which city is more trendy and sophisticated - Brunswick, Georgia, or Alcan, Alaska.

Lol, OK sure Mrs.-lives-in-a-literal-swamp-that-everyone-thinks-is-a-rural-backwater.

Lol.. Chicago is nothing like this. Not anymore. The big difference is the core vs no core. Evanston vs Hyde Park and nonwoke vs woke Administration. There are tons of finance, consulting and tech types in Chicago, followed by large number of pre-meds. Very pre-professional now. Almost to a fault. They have very strong Div 3 athletics, specially in women's soccer, tennis etc.

Which is more woke - Northwestern or Chicago?

Kids are woke at both schools, but slightly less at Chicago. Administration is both spineless and woke at NU. The way they have treated their own profs because the woke brigade howled is disgusting. Chicago's admin doesn't allow it's woke idiot students to hold them hostage and bully faculty and students with their "correct thinking"

All schools are woke these days. Schools emphasizing more on STEM are relatively not as woke as those emphasizing non-STEM. Caltech and MIT are a little less than many other top 10 schools, for example. It is so maybe because the faculty and students in STEM schools have to deal with the reality of science/technology laws. Playing woke can't get that rocket to the Mars. So in this sense, Chicago is somewhat less woke than NU.

This doesn’t make sense because Northwestern generally has stronger STEM than UChicago.

But for all the cheap and gaudy promo brochures Chicago sends out, people outside the region might think U of Chicago is a public uni like U of Charlestown, U of Colorado, U of Illinois. And NW is a direction you give to someone you hope to get lost.

Also, Chicago seems very eager to get prep school kids who apply ED. The dirty little secret is that if you have an B+ or better average, a high test score, can sound the least bit intellectual/quirky in your essay and are full pay, you have a fantastic shot in the ED rounds. It's the place that prep school kids go when they're smart but have no chance (because they're unhooked or not mind-blowing in any way) at any other T10 or Ivy.

For a friend's DC, I wish this were true. Student with 4.0 GPA (most rigorous classes), 1600 SAT, 2 800 SAT Subject tests, NMSF, Presidential Scholar nominee, varsity athlete, great ECs, etc - rejected in ED. Neither legacy nor hook. Our school usually has 2-5 students going every year and now only 1 in to date. I know all the stats as my DC has been in same classes with this kid for last seven years and just can't believe this happened. "Mom, this is probably the smartest kid in our grade!"

DC looked at both NU and UC. Passed on NU, EAed to UC, and got into ED.

Was your friend’s DC full pay?

LOL. People that matter -- at top employers -- know otherwise. So it does not matter that uneducated people might think that the U of Chicago is like a public school.

U Chicago’s ROI is similar to U of Virginia.Top employers with their educated employees do know their value: UChicago is as good as UVirginia.

Anonymous wrote:Both schools are just as hyper-woke as any other top 50 university. Chicago's conservative marketing/branding is fake b.s.

Please. Don't post and give evidence of your ignorance. While the kids at both schools are mostly stupid woke, There is a chasm in the attitudes of administration at both schools when it comes to freedom of speech and viewpoint diversity. Chicago is the gold standard on this and no top school even comes close, because of the governance mechanisms and how strongly the trustees of the school support these principles.

Evanston may be safer neighborhood, but if you say the wrong thing or express a controversial idea, the administration at NU will get with it's stupid woke students and tar and feather you

Batshit crazy. Leaving aside PP’s obvious hyperbole, just who is the “you” in this last sentence supposed to be? A student? A parent? A professor? Guest speakers?

It's harder to get mugged and witness a homicide and hear gunfire all night in NU's Evanston. While there was a daytime homicide two blocks north of UChicago yesterday. Hyde Park is super safe though. Right.

And in NU, women students must deal with the predatory culture. “Survey show that experiences of sexual harassment and violence overwhelmingly affect undergraduate females.”

I have nieces and nephews at both. Both campuses are extremely "woke" and far left. UChicago's marketing claims to the contrary are 100% bogus.
