Definitely. What made granite out of date? It was installed everywhere to make ho hum work look premium, especially condo rehabs. What's today's equivalent? Quartz and house flippers.

Okay then what is the material we should be using if we don't want "laminate" countertops? Other than marble that is, which is pretty impractical for many on here.

We couldn't find a master electrician under $150/hr. NP here. Bringing the gas line is around 4k. These are not DYI type of jobs and honestly, I can tell right away who has a DYI's job. You can easily tell even in painting.

Some DIY are better than contractors. It just depends on who is doing it.

Absolutely not. My brother is a construction engineer and owns a boutique hotel and he always insists on skilled labor for electrical and gas. You can't find a master electrician in the parking lot at Home Depot.

So, yes. It sounds like the estimates you got are to be expected and that's probably for a basic kitchen not a high end one.

here's a helpful blog post from 2018 from a designer in Arizona where presumably labor is slightly less expensive than here.

Where did you get your quartz countertops? We just got a quote for about $110/sf for either Dekton, Taj Mahal, or polished Gabana, which strikes me as a bit high.

Flushing Queens there is a big section by Citi field you get everything wholesale

I know people who drive there in rental truck and load up.

I got around 60 percent off. Cash only, no returns. I loaded up my two car garage. Was a bit crazy.
