+1 About $100K all-in for our house in Silver Spring, worth about $1M. |
Whoa.
Our kitchen remodel was for a kitchen that was 14 x 12. Fairfax. May 2020. Project took 4 weeks. 40k. + 8k in appliances. This included the following: Demo and clean up. Removal of tiled flooring. Gas line install. Range movement and ventilation install. Complete electrical overhaul and cabinet layout change. Brand new plywood cabinets and trim. (8k rta cabinets). Install of new wood floor. Painting. The thing that helped costs the most- having the cabinet company do the design. The autocad it for you with 3D drawings. My gc loved it. |
For those looking for affordable options, we are getting IKEA cabinets for $5k and we’re quoted $2.4K for installation by IKEA. Live in NW DC and kitchen is 14x9ish (opens to dining room). Still sourcing countertops and appliances and plan to DIY tile so another 9k? |
Sorry PP but those are so very low-mid range appliance you must have gotten. OP's house is in McLean valued at $1.8M. The stove alone should cost $7K - if you're putting high-end appliances in a home, which you should be in this case. For the cabinets, you must have very few to come in at $15K. Quartz price sounds about right. |
Okay then what is the material we should be using if we don't want "laminate" countertops? Other than marble that is, which is pretty impractical for many on here. |
DP, but for function, I will absolutely stick with granite. I like to cook and have better things to do with my time than maintain countertops. |
Or quartzite. It's beautiful like marble, but durable like granite. |
Granite is out and has been for a couple of years. |
It's beautiful and $$$$. |
Quartz cost more than granite, quartz is very durable and low maintenance. |
There's marble, quartzite, soapstone, and the more "plain" granites that can be done in a honed finish. You can't puta hot pan on quartz, so for me I'd never put it in the main area of a kitchen. |
You paid a huge amount in labor. |
We couldn't find a master electrician under $150/hr. NP here. Bringing the gas line is around 4k. These are not DYI type of jobs and honestly, I can tell right away who has a DYI's job. You can easily tell even in painting. |
Labor seems too high, I would bring people from put of the area of that is labor |
Look into rta cabinets |
