Are your kids eating lunch outside?

Anonymous
Those of you who think all of this is fine and that it makes perfect sense - is laudable, even - to have 8- 14 year olds eating outside in 20 degree weather do realize that same said kids are, for the most part, congregating with their friends, having sleepovers and are eating at each others' houses all weekend, right? OP here, and mine certainly are.

Is there something in your minds that makes it more "dangerous" for a class of kids to eat together inside at school, versus a crowd of them getting together last night for a big INDOOR pizza party, such as the one going on at my neighbors' house?

Just checking for consistency, since so many of you seem to know so much about this.

My daughter napped outside and ate outside, but she never had to sit on concrete floor in subfreezing temperatures to lean forward trying to eat lunch with bare hands. Kids who eat outside at schools have to sit on concrete floors mostly. Because not enough picnic tables... I think it is child abuse to make them sit on concrete floors.

Schools are making kids sit in concrete floors outside to eat lunch? That sounds like a terrible school. Tell them to buy more tables. Problem solved.

Thank you very much for confirming my inkling that you’re just taking a swing at the school. Why don’t you check yourself for consistency before you waste 6-pages worth of everyone’s time? Basically you admit you don’t care about any of the rules meant to protect those most vulnerable. Fine, but have a decency to lay low and not start a thread under wrong pretenses. Good heavens, the crying lack of any future credibility!

When people start threads and then outstupid themselves b/c can’t generate the outrage they expected.

You answered your own question. That is why the school can’t trust the kids to take their masks off inside to eat. That’s responsible not outrage-worthy.

The outrage is comparing these privileged kids to the severely affected homeless population!

What are you talking about with regard to rules meant to protect the most vulnerable? Children should be socializing and they are. I’m with OP on this 1000%

My kids school eats indoors. They have plenty of space to do so safely.

Nope. Inside. All year. It’s even 60 degrees here now. No longer in DC.

Look up “ableist” or “empathy” or just the community rules you signed. can’t get people on board with an opinion and then go all “what are you talking about”?! “you don’t make any sense”

Kids can socialize, but then get to eat outside. It’s really not a tragedy

The kids ate inside to but then DC racked up 30% positivity and earned the worst spot for Omicron spread. So we are eating outside. What’s the big deal?

What is the reason to eat outside when they are all socializing together indoors when out of school?

It’s over. And barely affected kids anyway. Eat inside. This was such theater.

Just behave. Everyone else is. No one else is whining. Have your kid go eat inside, see how it goes

Of course op is taking a swing at the school. S/he is pointing out how ridiculous it is to make children eat outside in sub freezing temperatures, as though this performative step will have any bearing whatsoever on stopping Covid transmission. They can’t police the kids 24/7, but for that 20 minutes when they are unmasked on school property, they will fall on a sword to appear as though they are “doing something.” It’s laughable except that it isn’t funny.

Also agree with OP 100%
