Are your kids eating lunch outside?

I am not a crazy anti-vaxxer or anti-masker, but I think making kids eat outside in these low temperatures is simply stupid. If these schools are so elite and educating the country’s future leaders someone should muster the brainpower to come up with a better solution. My kid is not at a Big 3 and yet they have found solutions to keep everyone safe without unduly degrading their learning and social environment through masking, testing, and social distancing - including - gasp - indoor eating in small groups.

Kids can socialize, but then get to eat outside. It’s really not a tragedy

What is the reason to eat outside when they are all socializing together indoors when out of school?

A school has every right to apply it’s own rules and make plans for on campus mitigation during school hours. They cannot fully control the risks families take off campus on their own time (though it’s unfortunate when people take big risks that then create more likelihood of bringing COVID to school). How do people not understand this?

Who cares? This is so dumb. I hope it works out great for you. I mean that.

I hear there’s all sorts of glorious unmasked goings on in VA schools. Why not enjoy that and leave us well alone to care about each and every community member, even the most vulnerable, for as long as it takes?

Totally agree.

Here’s a radical yet logical proposal: let’s shut down the bars and restaurants during surges (but provide stimulus payments, gasp, socialism) so we can implement those freedoms at schools?

+2 And then, more cynically, there is the legal angle: if someone's DC contracts COVID at a school, there's bound to be a lawsuit. We all know how litigious people are in this area.

To not be a d*ck

That is not an answer to the question.

+1. Let’s rephrase the question: What is the reason to require children to eat outdoors in sub freezing temperatures?

To not be a d^ck

Very persuasive and informative. You are quite the philosopher. Are your kids’ analytical skills this strong?

You got it. They’re dimwits but even they get that you shouldn’t be such a massive d^ck

Ladies, we took a walk outside today. It was glorious. Very bracing, and very good for us (and just about everyone). Your children will be alright. This is a small and temporary sacrifice. Just be cool

This is what I have been thinking. But adults would object. They would rather enjoy their adult life while stealing their kids' childhood.

Our DCs complain. Not often. But we remind them to be community-minded. You don’t know what another member of our community is contending with — it’s a privilege to do the right thing. How’s this a debate?

There were no lawsuits in the past when kids caught flu at school. Flu is more dangerous for kids than covid. If you are scared too much of covid, get your kid vaccinated, get yourself boosted and invest in early treatment information for the case you catch covid. No litigation makes sense at this age, just like no litigation took place due to flu transmission.

Thanks, Marjorie, I just can’t with the flu argument

This is about eating lunch outside. Once a day, briefly. I don’t mean to be like the OP and the rose posse, but do your kids complain when they eat lunch outside at a ski resort? Walk
a dog? Hike in the winter? Mine are delighted. Get a perspective, you’re running out of time
