Nothing is ever 100% safe even before Covid. |
Your failure to plan does not make it a crisis for MCPS. MCPS has always said they will be open in full in person UNTIL the state shuts them down. That is why many of us were in a panic over the summer come August, when we didn't hear from them as MCPS was clear with their intentions if numbers spiked. When we talked about it here in August, many told us to homeschool or pay for a private online program. Those same families are now upset they don't have a virtual option. They are letting a few families in right now who have a clear need. You have a right to a free education for your kids. You don't have the right to dictate if it is in person or virtual. If you are concerned, teh best thing you can do is keep your kids home and hopefully enough families also do that, they will consider other alternatives. |
what is the process to replace the interim superintendent? |
| I’m a lawyer who takes contingency cases. I wouldn’t touch this case with a 10 foot pole. |

"I can tell you that's not the case at my child's school where they still report cases by date. Most of the cases that were reported later in the week were still from December." Think about that a minute. Let's say that could be true and the person isn't lying. Either parents didn't report until Friday their kids sick in December two weeks prior (highly unlikely) or that MCPS is slow rolling numbers (which would have delayed them being classified as red)? Would that be enough to show the intent for "wanton" disregard of health and safety of the children? |
| No one forced you to send your kids. Home schooling and Private are options. |
| This has to be a troll. |
Send them in for an hour one day and pick them up. Not absent - they left early! |
Good idea! |

THERE IS A STATE OF EMERGENCY AND THIS ENTITLES ANY STUDENT TO EXCUSED ABSENCES. One of the many items that MCPS should have made clear as soon as the emergency order came into effect. Gross incompetence keeping our families as unsafe as possible, and not even bothering to communicate what's actually important. |
Checked with DC's principal. No, we cannot use state emergency as an excuse for absence. |
Just call sick. |
Oh, I am. The principal is okay with it. It's do funny, you people are such brownosing rule followers you'll send your kids into a cesspool to catch covkd because you're afraid of having absences on their "permanent record." |
+ 1. An absent record means zilch. Something is seriously wrong here. If you feel unsafe don't send your kids. MCPS is not responsible for your kid's safety. It starts and ends with you. |
Yeah, I should amend my question (I started this thread). I am not considering suing MCPS for infecting us. Knock on wood, they havent and won't. They won't because I won't let them. I am considering suing them for failing to provide a safe environment where my kid won't catch covid. As indicated by the current infection rates, they are keeping no one safe. To some extent, it's not all under their control. Omicron is that contagious. Which is why keeping schools open, keeping lunch indoors, not making any effort to socially distance or allow for virtual instruction for kids who are temporarily at home is... well, it's not good. I don't really understand how anyone with actual kids in school is okay with the current situation. I mean, I'm pretty sure half of you are trolls from Virginia who probably don't even have kids, but the other half... I just don't know. Is it because you all covid at Christmas and so you assume everyone else is fine now? Some of us were watching your social media feeds for the past few months with horror: pictures of your office Christmas parties, your large family gatherings, your indoor trampoline park outings... and all I can think now is you helped make this happen. Doesnt it bother you at all? |
