suing MCPS for covid-related health problems

Good idea. Anyone worrying about contracting covid at work should just quit working.

This is crazy. You homeschool or do virtual academy if you are so worried. Did you sue when your kids got other illnesses at school? My kid was hospitalized for RSV that was caught at school. Never once did I think I could sue MCPS.

Thanks for reminding me - MCPS *COULD* have waited for the treatments (ex. covid pills, already approved for emergency use) to be mass-produced, thereby making it more unlikely that a child would be hospitalized?

The point is that the bad decision-making just keeps adding up.

The legal liability works both ways. Public schools have a legal obligation to provide x hours of instruction, provide SN services, etc. Their potential exposure to lawsuits or state sanction for failing to meet educational needs is likely a larger risk.

They could provide or require better masks, improved ventilation, outdoor dining, outdoor instruction, better testing, but their efforts end at using the term “robust”

Workers have fewer rights in PA than in MD and as a teacher that is married to a lawyer, I can assure you we have a plan in place if I were to get really sick from covid.

Same here.

More importantly, why would you? (Don’t answer…)

You could, but sadly, as parents of children with special needs know all too well, MCPS spends a fortune on lawyers. More than you could ever do, unless somehow it's a class action lawsuit - and I'm not sure you could organize that easily.

Will you sue if you catch Covid from a restaurant, a grocery store or work place?

The State didn't make a law saying "children must be present in a restaurant, grocery store, or workplace" nor are they necessarily staffed by people paid for with taxpayer dollars?

And you don’t have to send your kid to school. You can homeschool them if you want. Or you had an option to enroll them in the virtual academy.

Doesn’t send the same message to admin. Just imagine if every parent that was able kept their kids out of school during these 30 days of Hogan’s state of emergency. Half the curriculum you can find for free online anyway. Your kid might come back ahead of the classes that were unsupervised for a month.

We all have a right to free public education. Sorry that offends you

Hence the free virtual academy.
