School closure after break?

Yeah. Just 2 weeks to flatten the curve. That’ll work.

They should.

They won't.

And the Mayor will cave in.

Troll or 2020 time traveler, hard to decide

DC has far more infections now per day. More than at any point in 2020 or any of the prior 11 months of 2021.

Take it seriously.

Of course we should take it seriously, but schools should remain open in accordance with public health guidance (CDC)

But the infections are caused by a strain that is clearly much more mild even then the garden variety flu/strep/bad colds people normally have this time of year. We don't close schools other years.

This. DC has the lowest hospital rate now than at any time during this pandemic.

So if schools were to close after break when would DCPS inform parents? I have childcare issues and very little leave left at my job so I would love some heads up to figure things out.

Likely January 4, and it would be school by school. Staff are required to do a rapid test by noon on 1/3. Chancellor’s message said reopening January 5 unless staffing changes.

At this point, they won’t know if there’s enough staff to open schools until all the staff take rapid tests on Jan 3rd. They’re claiming it will be on a class by class, sxhool by school basis, not district wide.

Is DCPS administering the tests to staff? Or are we taking everyone's word for it when they say they are positive (or negative)? Having staff self report without proof seems like a really shortsighted plan.

All the email said was “ If further adjustments are needed for your school’s opening based on the results of staff tests, we will communicate those as early as possible. Families should currently plan for schools to reopen on Wednesday, January 5. ”. I am hoping they test the staff in person when they report on the 3rd.

We were told to report by noon to take a test. So I’m guessing we test and someone looks at it to see the results?

This is right I think. It will depend on staffing and will be school by school. Will be toughest for the middle/HS set where they are affected by multiple teachers.

DC Core petition: https://twitter.com/dc_core/status/1475144471348187143?s=21

Please tell me I didn’t just read they are advocating for asynchronous days for deep cleaning. I imagined that right?

My only demands would be required notification of positive cases within 24 hours and paid covid leave. The only reasons I worry about going to work is that I have a baby at home and very little sick leave left. I want to know quickly when I was exposed and I don’t want to end up on unpaid leave. I doubt either will happen but a girl can dream.
