School closure after break?

The mayor and the city council would have to be complete idiots to shut down schools in an election year. Probably no better way to piss off a huge number of voters.

We will vote against any politician who supports closing schools.

Schools have been open during Delta and it was no big deal. And now omicron looks way less dangerous than Delta, per the New York Times, so maybe just chill?

Same. I know so many democrats who have never voted for a republican in their lives who voted for Youngkin solely because of school closures. If Bowser shuts schools down, I will actively campaign for whichever candidate runs against her.

So a group of teachers is now actively advocating for COVID theater over educating our children. What a f**king joke.

I have to wonder what the WTU thinks of CORE. Certainly CORE isn't doing themselves, the WTU, or teachers in general many favors with this petition.

They have No Fuchs Left to Give.

If Bowser keeping schools open in January will actually make you vote to reelect her then wow..... pandering really does work.

Did you forget the entire 20-21 school year that quickly??

There is a shortage of tests and too many people who need to get tested to return to work, daycare, etc. already.

I am a DCPS teacher and this is why I send my child to a private school. No negative test, no school. End of story.

Also - school stay open

yea, they have better safety measures.

Given how many people had or have omicron, enough people may have immunity by next week to help keep things going.

As a DCPS teacher I don’t know anyone who is in CORE, or quite frankly had heard of CORE before this petition. I assume this is a very small group of teachers on the fringes of the spectrum of opinions in keeping school open. They certainly do not represent a large number of teachers.

That’s great news for sure. Unfortunately, the hospital situation for adults isn’t looking great around here as of now. We still need healthy adults in the building as well.

Vaccinated adults are extremely unlikely to end up in the hospital, so hopefully schools won’t be severely affected by hospitalizations of teachers and staff, who should be vaccinated.

I think the timing for so many people getting Covid (omicron variant) has actually been pretty great. And I say that as family who is fully vaxxed and was able to avoid catching it until two weeks ago. Three out of four in our household got it. It screwed up our Christmas with extended family but we're all fine. We've all had colds and flus that were much, much worse. By the time school starts back up most people who caught it the last week of school will be negative with antibodies flowing through their bodies and will be ready to be in school. In-person is imperative IMO. I'm also a little convinced that there are teaching staff who really just want to work from their couch and it doesn't have all that much to do with COVID anymore. I have colleagues like that too.

Yeah who cares about all the teachers, not from the area, who caught COVID and then can’t go visit their families. So glad dcps sacrificed all their teachers health and winter break’s so kids could watch movies and paint snowmen for those last 3 daysZ

No sympathy here. We had to scrap our plans with family over Christmas due to Covid. I’m not whining about it. It’s what had to happen when everyone in our fully vaccinated family tested positive on Dec 22.

You’re literally whining about it right now.
