They’re actually not any prettier than girls anywhere else. It’s all pageant style spray tans, hair bleach, and caked on makeup. They learn from an early age to put that look together and they know they won’t get into a sorority if they don’t look like that in every high school pic on Instagram and onward. If you take all that off, they’re just a bunch of normal white girls, and the uniform look they try to create and exclude any diversity to attain is actually pretty gross when you think about it.

This forum is the only place I’ve ever heard anyone over the age of 15 use the word “gross” (then again, that assumes you are over the age of 15, which I’m beginning to doubt).

Hint: anytime you have to audition for an invite and then pay to play, you’re willingly entering into a weirdly curated environment.

My university combined rush for all sororities 40 years ago, and my traditionally white sorority tried to actively recruit black members. All of the black women wanted to be in the traditionally black sororities. It wasn’t just not wanting to be the first, either. In the black community, the black college sorority alumni organizations are very active, and it is much more of a lifetime affiliation than you’ll find with any of the traditionally white sororities.

In light of all of these factors, it’s interesting that a student-generated effort at Alabama to integrate the white sororities has made slow, but steady progress.

Racism is terrible and punitive. Unacceptable anywhere. Have you ever wondered why such schools as the U. of Massachusetts, U. of Connecticut, and the U. of Vermont, etc only have about 5% or fewer Black students enrolled? Seems as if they would make increasing those numbers a priority.

Agree with this 100%. And it's interesting looking around the football stands and at the cheerleaders...it is a very plastic look. No thinks.

Yes, the New England no makeup, Birkenstocks and thick glasses look is far more natural and attractive.

That's another extreme...but I prefer natural over the caked on look.

Not that anyone cares what you prefer, but thanks for that.

That's kind of the point of this back and forth - what one prefers. So, there's that.

And I agree with the PP- A more natural look is always better to over tanned, tons of makeup, and overly styled hair.
