Great British Baking Show

He didn’t impress in either the Signature or the Showstopper. Also, not part of the scoring, but unlike others, he didn’t improve over time. I thought it was the right decision.

Season 7 was my favorite with Henry, Michael, Stef, David etc. Great chemistry with that group and Sandy and Noel were hilarious.

I’m not watching the final. The judging is trash on this show.

I agree. Everyone else has gotten better; he plateaued.

The Brits are not a monolithic bloc just as we aren't a monolithic bloc, and IG is hardly representative of anything. All my family and friends in the UK are watching the bakeoff and none are upset because he was either not their favorite or because it's just a good natured baking show. Based on the episode alone, it's not difficult to see why he was eliminated. And others have also observed he wasn't getting better as the episodes went by, quite unlike Crystelle and especially Chigs.

I do wonder why we never got the usual post-judging discussion among the judges for why they made their decision. That would have been useful.

It does make you wonder if they figured it was close enough to go with the fan favorites over the judges

Me too. It'll be interesting if he realizes the same and really doubles his efforts next week.

I can't argue that he is a better baker than Jurgen, but to be frank, I was always lukewarm towards Jurgen. He's a bit eccentric and thinking it was perfectly acceptable to bake a cake in the shape of a baby and slice it and serve it is something that didn't sit well with me, or the judges either from their obvious grimaces. I've a feeling his fan following is because he's clearly on the geeky side of things and that appeals to them, which is probably why he is quite popular among a certain internet demographics. I do feel bad saying all this as I'm sure he's also a terribly nice and kind person too. His brain is clearly more brilliant than mine and like brilliant brains it occasionally hits the wrong notes (see the baby cake). Giuseppe, by contrast, is someone I'd love to invite with his family over to my house where we'd spend all afternoon eating and drinking wine and talking about Italian food while the kids run all over the place. He actually even said "mamma mia!" on the show.

He was such an Eeyore. Always mopey and down. As a south asian, I want to see my fellow south asian contestants do well, but he got on my nerves.

He was pretty annoying, I agree with you!

I was surprised that Jurgen didn’t make the finale but he did seem to be regressing. He was amazing in the beginning but Paul even said an episode or two ago when he had a good bake how he was “back”. Meaning his bakes hadn’t been spectacular. And that show stopper last night was mediocre compared to the others. He could have done something more appealing and complex.

He was a man baby who apologized constantly. In the early eps they told him to stop - and you could see some tight editing later on that was just cutting away to avoid the audience being driven insane by it.

He reminds me of Norman, although at a hugely higher level of skill. Very set on his way and confident that it is enough. His showstopper even reminded me of Norman’s biscuit boats.

I loved Norman! He was in above his head, however, and his refusal to really up the finesse and quality became a bit too stubborn towards the end. Same with Maggie early this season.

PP, if you’re reading, I’m genuinely curious — what makes you say that? The judges definitely make choices I don’t agree with, but I always figure I couldn’t taste the actual food so don’t know as well as they do. Also sometimes I wonder if the production team chooses to cut parts of the judging to keep things looking more even, so that we the viewers don’t get the full reaction/discussion… Just wanted to hear your different point of view here.
