Great British Baking Show

Loving GBBS this season - the vibe, the lack of competitiveness, no theatrics, Lizzie's scouse accent, Crystelle's laugh, Jurgen's understatedness, everything. Who do you think will win?

I LOVE this season! I find the cast so charming - Lizzie is the one I think I'd most want to go get a meal with but they are all so fun and delightful.

The two obvious finalists are Jurgen and Giuseppe - but I feel like Crystelle and Chigs aren't out yet either! And that any of them winning feels like it's deserved.

Yes! It is so great. I assume there will be a Christmas special again.

The only thing that bothers me is Jurgen's voice. I think he sounds like the pigs from Shrek!

I love it too.

Really hope Lizzie finds a future that keeps her voice in the discourse after the show - it's hard work to build up a brand and develop a following and have regular updates to whatever or sit down and write a cookbook or whatever it is when you have the things she's identified (ADHD, dyspraxia, dyslexia, etc etc). She'd br a great fun host of something, so I hope someone scoops her up to host. But thinking of past GBBO contestants, I see them out there working at ways to keep themselves relevant - Henry had (has?) a column in the Independent, Nancy wrote a book(s) and has daily updates on Instagram, Chetna write a book, etc etc etc.

Her personality and voice are so unique, I hope she has public success. She is fun. (she and Noel would be great hosting something!).

As for who wins - I really can't even guess, nor do I have an outright favorite. I love Jurgen and Giuseppe. But Chigs seems really great, too. Crystelle is also really good ( wish Crystelle wasn't always so surprised by how we'll she's doing! She's a good baker - she should own it).

She and Noel would be hysterical - he'd end up the straight man in that duo!

And I TOTALLY agree that she brings something special to the show and to baking. I hope she does get to build a platform where she'll get to share more of her bonkers, wonderful creations - and talk more about her personal experience and how that shapes her work and her life.

I don't care for Lizzie at all actually. I mean I did find her final cake charming but other than that I found her embrace-my-weakness vibe to be irritating. She waited until too late to start really trying.

It's always been a toss up between Jurgen and Giuseppe. Chigs really pulled off some improvements this past week though and Chrystelle is entering this stage behind now, which I didn't expect.

My vote is on Guiseppe; he is so calm and kind. It will be between him, Juergen and Crystelle
I thought Noel and Matt’s Kraft-Werk inspired intro to German week was hysterical.

So glad you started this thread. I have been enjoying this season a lot and wondered why no one has posted about it!

It's between Jurgen and Giuseppe imo. Chigs and Crystelle will battle it out for the last finalist spot. J & G could always go out next episode, but they'd really have to screw up and I don't see that happening.

I've appreciated that this season's challenges are normal. They have not asked them to do anything weird this time around, although I guess there is still time for a pita baking session around an open fire.

I am a fan of Lizzie. Will miss the Scouser accent, but with her gone I may be able to turn off the closed captioning when I watch the show! I got so tired of rewinding to understand what she said that I just kept closed captioning on the entire time I was watching the show!

Prior to Covid, I had watched some seasons of GBBO, but not all of them. When we were sick with Covid in 3/20, an MD friend recommended watching the show bc it's very calming. I watched all the seasons! As we continue with this not-over-fast-enough pandemic, the show is a wonderful antidote to so much blah.

Once I watch the show I listen to this podcast:

I am enjoying this season, just as I enjoyed every season.

I will say this has been perhaps the most predictable season, with the bakers going out in a very predictable order. Jurgen and Giuseppe were earmarked for the final from the first episode. You could predict with a high degree of accuracy which baker would go out in which order up to the final.

On the whole, I still prefer the early seasons. They were a tad bit more realistic that it was meant to be a home baking show, so we didn't have ridiculous glass domes or sculpture cakes.

I agree with those saying Jurgen or Giuseppe. Both dedicated and charming. Both deserving a win, actually.

Lizzie is not going to be a presenter. Her voice is not unique. She is a Liverpudlian and I can tell you that city is HUGE there are tons of Liverpudlians in the UK. Even some professional comedians, but no, not her. Sorry.

Is it my imagination or is there less backstory/family stuff this season? I wonder if it is covid-related…

They don't get into backstory/family stuff until the final episode when there's a brief feature of the three finalists.

When I tell you we are obsessed with Jurgen in our household... lol. But I do love everyone. Such a charming season.
