Is Bucknell really that bad?

Bucknell is a GREAT school. It gets horrible reviews on this site but it is a wholesome, clean cut community where many kids thrive.

This.

The culture of many of these smaller schools in the middle of nowhere (especially in places that are cold for 2/3 of the college year) are vey much the same. Not much to do in the general area, and heavy drinking is the primary social scene.

Replace Bucknell with Bowdoin, Williams, Lafayette and about 100 other similar schools and you will get the same response.

Thank you!!

Yes, we toured at 9am on a Saturday morning and there was a frat party going on, frat house back patio. Not a good look.

It gets better reviews here than anywhere else I've seen. It sounds like a good school for what it is -- a one dimensional frat boy school for students who didn't get into business school.

From 1978 to 1982. I would. NEVER send anyone I care about there

It is for rich kids.

Entitled kids

Why are the boosters pumping this school up? I agree with a PP who said it is like 100 others - isolated, heavy Greek and mostly upper or upper middle class kids.

Fine if you like partying and doing a little homework, less so for building a career or an environment that offers more.

P.S. one exception might be athletes who want to continue their careers and parlay that into job placement since some places look for college athletes.

It seems to be a popular school for kids these days who, a generation ago, would have gone to Middlebury/Bowdoin, but with the increased competition these days, can’t get in. So, I bet there are plenty of smart, competent and normal kids at Bucknell, they just aren’t pointy enough to get into higher ranked schools.

It seems like the SEC for rich/UMC tri-state kids who are "too good" for those schools.

Colgate - significantly richer student body (median family income $270k vs 194k BC). Higher endowment per student (391k C vs 257k BC). Higher average SAT score (1435 C vs 1420 BC). Lower admit rate (17% C vs 19% BC).

And by the way - Bucknell beats BC on family income and endowment per student, too.

PS - I have no dog in this fight.

According to Bucknell their acceptance rate for c/o 2029 was 28.9%. BC’s was 12.6%

You’re just making up numbers

My kid got in there. DC is an accomplished singer ( awards, etc). We applied for a bit of aid. Not one dime. Heard about the partying and Greek emphasis on too of that. No. That was that.

The poster made no mention of Bucknell's acceptance rate and commented on BC"s acceptance rate from the perspective of 2022.

Yep, and that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Sure, because everyone wants to go to college and study in the library at 9am.
