Is Bucknell really that bad?

So telling that the default Bucknellian must necessarily be a man. It’s a co-ed school.

Lame DCUM moms.

Bucknell is a GREAT school. It gets horrible reviews on this site but it is a wholesome, clean cut community where many kids thrive.

Wholesome???

I went to a similar school and don’t have anything against Bucknell, but “wholesome”?

Depraved is probably closer to the mark. Fun, but depraved.

My kid graduated from Bucknell right before Covid. We are not remotely rich and she went due to generous financial aid. She does not drink and found a great group of friends, had great teachers, challenging courses, and internships in DC. She went out to eat with professors and classmates and enjoyed the town. I’m sure there are plenty of frat parties and so forth, but that’s not all the kids. As soon as we toured, I could tell it was the right place.

It’s a third tier LAC in a horrible location.

Oh, you mean Harvard? Duke? Basically any selective and expensive private? Let’s not get it twisted. Just because Larlo has taken the greatest “rigor,” tested well, and has spikey ECs doesn’t mean he’s not a spoiled hot house flower cultivated since birth. It’s damn near impossible to amass the type of credentials so many on this board feel are the only ones worthy of elite college admissions without significant resources. Nobody wants to admit that, though.

Slightly above average school.

Bucknell is fantastic if you can get in.

Most of the posters on here bash it because of the cost. They are doing the same thing in the Michigan thread. Some can swing it, and some can't. Just because you can't swing it doesn't make it a bad school. Our kids didn't look at it. We were lucky they weren't interested because we couldn't have swung it.

Overpriced but the Posse kids/ Questbridge go for free.

Why do people keep posting about the 90s??

Please stop.

Absolutely no one on DCUM has ever asked what Bucknell was like 30 years ago.

Exactly. Bucknell's SAT 25%-50%-75%

1170-1280-1380

Is it tippy top like Claremont-McKenna or Williams? No, but it doesn't pretend to be. But these are solid SAT scores, with percentile ranks almost 90%.

Why spend 90k a year on mediocre school in horrible location.
