Exactly. Expansion, if it happens at all, doesn't happen quickly. |
ECNL could just swap and not "expand". BRYC has been performing extremely poorly since joining ECNL. Moving from one ECNL club to another would simply be lateral unless a big check was involved. MLS Next, who knows what their plans are but geographically Revolution could fit in. |
|
What about Revolution would make you think that they would be next inline? They aren't even fielding good NCSL teams let alone EDP/ECNL-R |
Why would ECNL expel BRYC and then add an even weaker club? |
|
I don't believe they will, I'm just simply following through on the thought exercise of the speculation of Oscar going to Revolution. Like many have said I don't believe he would go to a non-elite league affiliated club. So if he were to go to Revolution then it means that the money was HUUUUUGE or the money was both better AND they were getting into a higher league. If the money is in fact huge then it could be incentive laden with the stipulation that he lead the club into one of the elite leagues by a certain timeframe. I wouldn't be surprised if in a couple of years Revolution has younger teams that are very competitive and the club could be considered to be added to one of the bigger leagues. Loudoun wasn't given ECNL because of the performance of their U13-U19 teams at the time of application. They were added because they offered the following: 1. A large player pool 2. Facilities and field certainty 3. Staff. Loudoun has many highly licensed coaches (regardless of what you think, on paper their coaches have the papers) 4. Stability financially, regardless of what some folks here think of their ethics. All of those things matter to leagues like ECNL who are looking to add clubs. These leagues believe that the patch will ultimately drive talent to their member clubs but they want stable clubs who are large enough to not eff it up. None of this means that Revolution will get ECNL but since I was asked what makes me think they could is based on what likely got Loudoun added to ECNL. Again, I think we can all agree that Loudoun was not added based on the performance of their older ECNL aged teams. 1. Player pool - Revolution increased the potential by eliminating two local clubs from the field and likely having them completely locate out of the county. 2. Facilities - Owning Evergreen is a huge feather in their cap and would look great on a league application. 3. Staff/Coaching - They have been extremely aggressive in hiring quality coaches, and if the latest rumor is true they have certainly added credibility at the coaching leadership position. 4. Financials - Not knowing the books but they seem stable but then again they could just be writing checks they won't be able to cash. This is the biggest question mark. A Revolution application to ECNL is full of potential and several impressive accomplishments already for such a young club. They would certainly be more risky an add than Loudoun but their potential upside is greater than BRYC at this point. The obvious big downside for Revolution is they are young and lack a track record of performance. That is not insignificant. And all of this assumes that ECNL even wants to add another NOVA club but I can promise you that there are ZERO local ECNL R clubs that would get the nod. The most viable NOVA ECNL R add might be GFR or VYS but Villarreal is certainly not an option. And none of those clubs offer the facilities and other intangibles that Revolution offers. Had The St. James purchased Evergreen instead we would probably be looking at FCV in ECNL contingent upon fielding boys teams as an announcement by February. The above is just wild speculation so feel free to tear it apart. |
| I seriously doubt ECNL expands anytime soon. They were created to avoid a watered down league and now they are trending in that direction. If the do expand, I would expect them to look at successful ECNL-R clubs long before they look at unsuccessful NCSL clubs. Right now, they already seem like they are getting watered down in this area, so adding a second club centered around Loudon County make no sense. With the same player pool, their existing club in the area isn't successful; why would they water it down even more? |
I was going to ask pretty much the same question. I admit I don't follow soccer club politics at all and don't have particularly much interest in VRSC, but do they even play anywhere but NCSL right now? Their teams fit in fine with NCSL, but none of them are performing in a way that they seem poised to move to a higher-level league. |
The question was obviously this. Maybe he's taking a couple of weeks off between jobs and then there will be an announcement? |
| Another theory could be VRSC taking over or merging FCV. ? |
What would FCV get out of that? |
ECNL |
How would merging with VRSC get FCV into ECNL when VRSC is barely competitive in NCSL? |
Correct and that is the answer. VRSC has a lot of pros as you or PP previously listed, field, pools, $$ to be of interest to ECNL. All VRSC Is missing is competitive teams probably qualified coaches which FCV can provide. As PP mentioned with a new ED who would attract talent (boys?) the this could be a big deal. Remember this s a theory. |
