MCPS didn't remove the SROs. Marc Elrich refused to assign them to schools. MCPS had no choice but to go along with it, or look racist. Elrich made this unilateral decision. |

Ehlrich has to go for many reasons and this is one
My son plays varsity football and I fear going to certain games because of the fighting , harassment and bullying from both students and parents at certain games. There isn't enough security. |
right and what security they have are exhausted. beyond exhausted. |

Marc Elrich says he will remove SROs from schools.
https://bethesdamagazine.com/bethesda-beat/schools/elrich-says-he-will-remove-police-officers-from-schools/ He creates a mental health task force. https://www.wusa9.com/article/news/local/maryland/post-school-resource-o-conversation-montgomery-leaders-create-task-force-to-address-students-mental-health-needs/65-c6940256-e77e-4e84-956a-36638698034f Where are the new counselors? Why pull out one resource before replacing it with another? |
| Seems like a lot of these posts are trying to shift the blame away from a knife-wielding student to others. SROs have dubious benefits at best. El Rich was right to remove them there are a waste of tax dollars. Further it wouldn't have mattered in this case even if the SRO didn't just run away. |
They’re not there. Smh. |
+1 |
Seems like you are the PP that is doing the deflecting. Churchill got lucky when the student with a weapon didn’t use the weapon. How many people would have been hurt if it takes the Montgomery County Police Department 20 minutes to respond to 911 calls? SROs is a program that disperses police officers throughout the community. An SRO at Churchill can quickly respond to any incident within the cluster schools or the general neighborhood. They can leave campus to respond to other calls when needed. Also, getting rid of SROs doesn’t get rid of bad police officers. Montgomery County will only improve the officers on duty by investing in training. That is needed no matter where police are assigned. |
BS There is plenty of blame to go around. We have seen (especially during this pandemic) that MCPS and Elrich are not doing what is in the best interest of our kids. |
No--it's easy to RECEIVE an alert. Sending an alert takes time and organization. Not a ton of time, but in this particular case, it seems like the danger was gone before an alert was feasible. |
Even closer to home an Ari took a gun from a student at Clarksburg before he could do any damage. SROs are critical in preventing or minimizing violence in schools. |
Edit: Ari = SRO |
BINGO! |
I heard he ran away to cower behind a tree. |
| All this stuff is performative. If we really wanted to do right by our kids and our communities we’d have smaller schools instead of these giant places where no one really knows anyone. Where the teachers and administrators don’t know the kids and aren’t able to invest in individuals because there are too many of them. We don’t want to spend the money and the effort. People in power don’t want to give up their control. So we throw tons of money at creating these huge machines that don’t serve our children and thus don’t serve our communities and we wonder why it is such a mess. |
