Yea if you’re going to get upset about your child playing soccer with “contacts of contacts” then you need to just withdraw from soccer. This is going to be too much for you. |
Yeah I think what schools are slow to realize is that when you blanket send everyone home rather than identifying true close contacts, everyone assumes their kid was not *really* a close contact. Our elementary school had around 75 kids quarantined for ONE positive case. You can’t tell me that all 75 of those kids had really spent 15 minutes within 3ft of that child. They say they’re just being cautious, but really they’re losing credibility, especially with no test-out option. And they’re not even asking the quarantined kids to provide test results so they can document spread. The whole system makes no sense to me. |
Let me make this super clear: Anne’s class is quarantined because there was a positive case in the classroom. Anne came to soccer practice the day after the quarantine began and came to the game this weekend. |
| Keep your sick kids at home and instead of screaming allergies get them tested. Simple. Yes, 75 kids could all have contact. They get mixed up at lunch time, different classes, specials, after school activities, etc. It makes more sense to send all 75 home then 60 when those 60 then would not get even virtual schooling and just assignments. Stop being selfish. You knew this was going to happen when you choose in person. You need to make a back up child care plan for your kids as this will continue to happen. |
OK? why are you surprised by this? If parents and adults in our community would act more responsibly we'd have this better under control. Its not Anne's fault that her parents are clueless and don't care. |
K. But were you, or your kid, near Anne? Otherwise, you are worried about your child on the soccer field with a 'contact of a contact' |
Yes, exactly, the policy means that no one is taking it seriously - some schools are quarantining entire grades for one positive. It's ridiculous. |
Classes are quarantined because it's easier to remote teach a whole class. Not sure what whole grades are quarantining tho...is that still happening beyond first week panic? In terms of sports, if my child has to quarantine, we will follow CDC guidance or club guidance for going back, including getting a negative PCR test. |
This happened with us this weekend. Larla’s class is quarantined for 10 days because of a positive case in the classroom. The next day I see Larla at a soccer game hanging out with everyone. Asked if she is tested negative and her mom said she didn’t get her tested. May get her tested later next week so Larla can attend her after school activities. Speechless. I would’ve been okay if she was tested and came back negative. |
No, this didn't need to happen. MCPS is just handling this extraordinarily poorly (big surprise...) Other local districts aren't applying quarantine "hammers". They're using "scalpels" and have been fine. |
You can be speechless, but this is where we are headed. This back to normal. Only quarantine sick kids. Only test kids with symptoms. That is what normal looks like |
Exactly this. But again, it makes it hard for parents to take it seriously when classes are quarantined for this reason. Parents have no way of knowing if the positive kid sat within 3ft of their DC, thus meeting the actual close contact definition. Our school has assigned seats for everything other than recess, I thought in part for this reason of being able to more easily identify close contacts. If they want to send the entire class home, that's within their power to do so, but it would be helpful for parents to know if their child was an actual close contact. |
Ok, but almost anywhere else, Larla would not have been sent home to begin with UNLESS she sat within 3ft of the positive child. MCPS is the only district I know of that is doing this. Everyone else has moved on to only quarantining actual close contacts (as defined by the CDC), not entire classrooms/grades. |

test at day 5 return on day 6 if close contact
that should be the policy 10 days without a testing option or exception for kids who have had corona within the last 90 days is so beyond unacceptable |
Yep, MCPS is taking a "half in/half out" approach to this. They're the only district doing it this way. I don't know how they plan to navigate the future. Maybe the availability of pediatric vaccines will be the goal post they need to pull their heads out of their butts. |
