You’re probably not familiar with La Palma yet. But you will be hearing about it soon.

There is no tsunami threat.

The recent clickbait headlines that the op referred to were based on 2001 research that was subsequently debunked.

In short: never was a tsunami threat for the USA.

PS - the op didn’t predict anything. This was covered in the news for the last two weeks. Locals were on notice.

Earth Scientist here. This. That tsunami study was fundamentally flawed, and there is ZERO threat of any mega-tsunami from this volcano/eruption. And we saw this eruption coming for weeks - there was a pretty standard set of signs that it was getting ready to happen.

You "scientists" can say whatever you want, I've been doing my own research.

Ah, are you also "researching" the COVID vaccines, dear? Lol, we are all so very grateful.

Sour grapes post of the day, lolz!

OP nailed it. You were probably one of the ones posting that “earthquake activity was reducing” or whatever and “nothing was going to happen” on page 2. Go away.

?

Active earthquakes erupt. We know this. It happens.

This thread was fueled by clickbait predictions of a massive tsunami that would impact the US. I read spanish and portuguese news articles with the same ridiculous warnings.

Had those clickbait articles RE: a massive tsunami not been heavily circulated over the last two weeks, the eventual eruption would have barely been a blip in the news cycle.

Simple eruption that was predicted, and preventive action was taken to mitigate risk.

That’s right, forget listening to a scientist! I’m listening to the scienticians who can Google.

Go re-read the original post which attempts to fuel hysteria by saying we have 6 hours of warning on the East Coast to avoid massive tsunami flooding in the DC metro area.

If you think that original prediction was validated by the eruption that did not prompt a tsunami of any kind (let alone one impacting the US) and seemingly hasn't resulted in fatalities on the actual island, then go ahead and do the Church Lady's "told you so" dance.

I knew it was nothing to worry about once I saw a Facebook friend - who posts a sh*t ton of conspiracy theories posted something about the mega-tsunami. It was like "phew. If he's is posting about this, I know it's nothing to be concerned about"

NP. You joke, but you can't have a tsunami when Jupiter is ascending. This is just basic astrology. I wasn't worried.

Um, what about the scientists and Spanish government monitoring the volcano who issues the warning that prompted the media to pick up the story and embellish it with clickbait fake news which captured the op’s attention and prompted this thread? You’re giving the op far too much credit.

I’ll give them credit that I learned about la Palma here before the real news. So, some credit.

It actually would be less than 6 hours because the tsunami buoys would have to be activated and that would occur within that six hour period. Just sayin'
There is also some question as to how many of the buoys are functioning.
