Ok. I’m hiring a personal tutor for my kid.
I looked at Khan academy but feel there needs to be someone who knows what the heck they are doing. Im so frustrated and at loss about what else could be done. |

Look at the bright side. Everyone will get an A. Yeah GPA bump!!!
No hope for the AP test, unfortunately. |
|
An “A” is not guaranteed. In fact, could possibly get very bad. Just thinking through this… say they finally get a teacher in October. This person has never taught in the states… culturally different. We have no idea about how this teacher will conduct class. Teacher could decide to race through curriculum- try to fit everything in even more truncated schedule.
I do not trust this school administration to look out for the students. The leaders have shown us time and time again that the kids come last. Every single time. Now I’m getting angry. |

| The sad thing is that this is a normal occurrence for DCPS. Deal regularly had teachers get stuck in the DCPS approval system for weeks. I agree that the delay is all the more painful with the 4x4 system, but I would not be surprised if every comprehensive HS in DC has some sort of staffing issue. |
yep. we had this happen at Deal. We had another teacher just rarely show up to class last year. She taught maybe one out of every 3 class days (in a core subject). The school did nothing and said their hands were tied. DCPS is great until you have this kind of S$%T happen and you watch the administration DO NOTHING for weeks and weeks. And worse: COMMUNICATE NOTHING. I had another kid go through DCPS and this didn't happen and I though "hey, it's not half bad". But then you have it happen (classes without teachers) and it really, really sucks. We ended up applying to private for high school for the kid who just finished Deal because I was exhausted from this foolery. No, we can't really afford it but my mental health was more important. I couldn't spend the year (and the following 3) wondering if my kid would actually have instruction. Other people have a much higher tolerance for this stuff. I was beat down and worn out. |
And that does not look good on college applications. |
|
Has anyone taken this issue to a local news agency? Submitted an anonymous tip?
I would. It seems it is the only way to get action with DCPS. |
| In the end, these kids are going to have to take it in college, or if going in to the humanities, just never learn physics. |
Yep. Wilson college admissions were miserable this year in part because grades were grossly inflated for everyone. Giving everyone As hurts everyone. College regional admissions officers are not dumb. |
| At this point, why couldn't DCPS put a camera in a classroom in another high school and at least let the Wilson kids watch another physics class? |
There is so much more to the story than this - I’m sorry your kid didn’t get into the elite school you wanted. Mine did! |
Lol. There were no Wilson kids admitted to a top 10 school last year. I guess you consider Wisconsin elite. |
God, you’re gross. You are sitting on a website dumping on kids and schools you don’t consider elite. What a sad person you are. |
Please complain to downtown about the 4x4 at Wilson- parents, teachers, and the administration all hate it but they won’t change it without a lot of people weighing in. |
