The sad thing is that this is a normal occurrence for DCPS. Deal regularly had teachers get stuck in the DCPS approval system for weeks. I agree that the delay is all the more painful with the 4x4 system, but I would not be surprised if every comprehensive HS in DC has some sort of staffing issue.
yep. we had this happen at Deal. We had another teacher just rarely show up to class last year. She taught maybe one out of every 3 class days (in a core subject). The school did nothing and said their hands were tied. DCPS is great until you have this kind of S$%T happen and you watch the administration DO NOTHING for weeks and weeks. And worse: COMMUNICATE NOTHING. I had another kid go through DCPS and this didn't happen and I though "hey, it's not half bad". But then you have it happen (classes without teachers) and it really, really sucks. We ended up applying to private for high school for the kid who just finished Deal because I was exhausted from this foolery. No, we can't really afford it but my mental health was more important. I couldn't spend the year (and the following 3) wondering if my kid would actually have instruction. Other people have a much higher tolerance for this stuff. I was beat down and worn out.
