I completely understand the concern about safety at ACHS. I still have concern about ACPS administrators having access to police officers already on-site since ACPS in the past has shown an inability to protect student rights.

Not only that, it's apparently racist to not want your child in an environment where kids are shooting each other. My husband didn't work his @ss off to escape his dangerous Chicago neighborhood for us to send our kid into that kind of environment.

What the heck is the relevance of the 9/10/21 arrest to the 9/21/21 shooting incident? This article seems to suggest a relevance but then stops shirt if explaining. What the heck kind of reporting is this??

Bradlee Center is the de facto hang out for ACHS students. Yes, there are also students from Episcopal, Minnie Howard, SSSAS, and BI as well there is no other place for students to go aside from the little shopping center with the CVS on Quaker. The bulk of the students hanging out at the McDonald's are coming from ACHS. I would be curious to know if this shooting is related to spillover from fights that originated from inside the school. I hope APD and ACPS will provide further updates.

Yeah but they aren't hanging out in front of the McDs. They go to Starbucks and Tropical Smoothie and Zoes.

I know middle class black families that have moved out of Alexandria City to avoid sending their kids to ACHS. Are they racist, too?

That is a fair question. While I had qualms about it at the time (for example I never wore a tee shirt we given with a picture of that confederate on it) I do not think I appreciated at the time the scope of the problem of the lost cause myth that was perpetuated through the honoring confederate throughout the south (and thus chose to attend because it is strong academically etc.). My perspective has changed over the past few years just like changing perspectives led to the name change of the public high school here in Alexandria.

Okay, what would an SRO do with a shooting off-campus?

They could still have an officer stationed in those high traffic areas as they're off campus.

Did they identify a shooter? Because I wasn't aware that the shooter was a student, only a victim.

Now hearing rumors about (unconfirmed) threats of a shooting at GWMS tomorrow. Our kids don’t need this!!

I'm not sure a negative term like snitching is appropriate when referring to telling the police who pulled out a gun and tried to kill you.
