I was afraid this thread would turn into that. I suggest again, just checking out google.

OP here...this is after a heart beat couldn't be detected and no fetal movement confirmed by sono. I will research elsewhere.

Poster 11:32, I did not "murder my baby" when I had a D&C. I had a missed miscarriage - the baby was no longer alive. The D&C emptied my uterus so that I could move on and try again. You really should educate yourself on women's health.

Previous post was meant for Poster 11:31.

A D&C is the scraping of the uterus lining. This can be done for several reasons. If a woman miscarries and doesn't want to go through the heartbreak of passing the baby on her own or if the doctor fears infection. It can be done as an abortion process. Some women with endometriosis also have it done.

...and also basic human kindness.

if you had a miscarriage then a D&C is not an abortion, my apologies. But over half of the country is now pro-life, and obviously this is a subject where feelings run high, so no surprise reactions will be pretty varied and drastic. personally i am very anti-abortion.

Sentiments run very high, indeed, but you jumped to a HUGE conclusion. Last year I had a miscarriage, and got a phone call from my insurance company about my "missed abortion" and scheduling a D&C. Needless to say, I flipped out over the insensitive use of the term right as I was grappling with the unexpected in utero death of my baby.

Yes, it can be used as an abortion procedure, but my guess is that more D&Cs are performed for other reasons (miscarriage, other health issues) than for abortion. Heck, my grandmother had one at age 50 -- I can't remember the reason, but clearly wasn't an abortion. So please take this as a lesson learned, sensitivity to an innocent question goes a LONG way until you know the context and then you can jump on your soapbox.

2007 - A new poll conducted by CBS News makes it clear that a majority of Americans are pro-life when it comes to the issue of abortion. The October survey finds 54 percent of Americans take one of three pro-life positions opposing all or almost all abortions and another 16 percent want more restrictions on it.

2009 - Fifty-one percent of Americans consider themselves "pro-life," the first time a majority of the country has stated a personal objection to abortion since Gallup polls began tracking the data 15 years ago.
