Hamilton DC cast

When I go to the Hamilton tour website, there is a totally different cast than who is at the Kennedy Center: https://hamiltonmusical.com/us-tour/cast. Is the Kennedy Center a different "tour" or how does it work - anyone know?

There are two tours. The one in DC is the “Angelica tour” and the other one is the “Philip tour.” It’s a way for them to hit more cities.

Is one better than the other?

DP. I haven't seen both to compare, but the Angelica tour company is fantastic, they definitely didn't feel like a tour company. I saw it with a friend who's a professional musician and who saw it on Broadway first, and his sacrilegious opinion was that Austin Scott is a better Alexander Hamilton than Lin-Manuel Miranda.

I just saw it and the DC cast was outstanding.

Me too, and agreed! It was SO GOOD. I can't stop thinking about it. I was really wondering if it was going to live up to the hype and I have to say... it absolutely does.

I never saw the original cast. But I saw it at the Kennedy Center last weekend with Austin Scott in the role. Since then I've been obsessively listening to the soundtrack and definitely prefer Scott's voice to Miranda's. (Can't believe I'm saying that!)

I really enjoyed the DC cast. I think they are better than the cast I saw in Ny last year.

I saw the OBC twice as well as the DC cast.

Overall, OBC better. LMM isn't the best singer in the world, so the DC Hamilton was better technically. That said, LMM is still LMM, and the whole vibe in NYC was thrilling.

Agree with this. Didn’t see him on Broadway, but have listened to the cast recording 100s of time. He may be a genius, but his voice is not that strong.

We had the understudy for Hamilton when we saw it at the KC - I thought he was outstanding.

We had the understudy for Burr and, unfortunately, I thought he was pretty terrible. Especially in the first act. I thought MdL/Jefferson was incredible, especially the first song of the second act.

We had the understudy for Angelica for the DC performance and I thought she stole the show! Couldn't understand why she isn't a principal.

I thought the show was great but was not the outer body experience that everyone else seems to have. Overall, I think Les Miz was more of an “experience” for me.

I saw it twice - once with the Angelica lead and Eliza understudy, and the other time vice versa. The leads were definitely better for both roles, although the Angelica understudy was really good. I didn’t love the Eliza understudy - she has an amazing voice but it was very operatic. The lead was more understated which fit the role better. Overall I think the cast is amazing. Austin Scott is phenomenal, Burr is great, Jefferson was great, I loved the actor who plays George Washington... oh I would seriously go again tomorrow!

I loved the DC cast. I agree with PP that LMM isn't the strongest singer, but he's a better rapper. I think the women of the case held up to the original broadway cast better than the men, but they men were still impressive. The DC cast Burr played the role with a weaseley tone of voice that bothered me at first (being used to the smoothness of Leslie Odom), but it grew on me and it still fit the character very well.
