I told my UMC Asian American kid to start a gang so that he could "differentiate" himself in his college application from other Asians. But he is busy with a Robotics camp right now!!

That happens when people are afraid to report crime due to threat of deportation. Duh!

This is how crime works. When you threaten deportation for non-criminals, crime rises. Great job!

If you had listened to the Council hearing on crime statistics, where that chart came from, you’d know that a large part of the increase was from increased police activity and arrests. Also there have been zero gang homicides this year compared to 8 last year. That chart needs context. Aren’t there any news reports on it?

MoCo is finally cracking down and it's upping the stats. For a long time I never saw police around unless we called, now they are making their presence known in some of the gang / crime heavy areas. Thankfully.

As a resident of the area, this is news to me. I read the crime reports weekly and other than assorted assaults (which tend to happen late at night), most of the crimes tend to be car or home break-ins. I'm not afraid in my home or when I go out. I'm much more afraid of being robbed when I go into DC.

Of course. When immigrants are afraid of the police, the gangs prey on thrum.

Victims are afraid to call the police for fear of deportation or deportation of family members hence crime rises.

PP here. No, actually I live in MV, and have for a long time. It's not awful; if it had been, we would have moved long ago. My neighborhood doesn't even have the problems I mentioned above.

Most gang violence in Montgomery County is against el Salvadorans. If you are not el Salvadoran or buying drugs from them, you are pretty darn safe.

But innocent El Salvadorans are being preyed on daily. Extorted, stolen from, threatened, etc.

Why is that? What were the police doing before? Or were more officers hired to deal with the issues? Great - but this is yet another cost of illegal immigration for county residents to bear.

Like back in El Salvador but now we’re paying for crime enforcement and seeing it all here? Not good.
And no one is ‘safe’ when there are bullets flying around the neighborhood .

What we should be doing is working to stabilize things in these other countries. It spreads to the US so maybe residents will understand why we need a presence in other countries.
