As a resident of the area, this is news to me. I read the crime reports weekly and other than assorted assaults (which tend to happen late at night), most of the crimes tend to be car or home break-ins. I'm not afraid in my home or when I go out. I'm much more afraid of being robbed when I go into DC.
Most gang violence in Montgomery County is against el Salvadorans. If you are not el Salvadoran or buying drugs from them, you are pretty darn safe. But innocent El Salvadorans are being preyed on daily. Extorted, stolen from, threatened, etc. :(
Like back in El Salvador but now we’re paying for crime enforcement and seeing it all here? Not good. And no one is ‘safe’ when there are bullets flying around the neighborhood . What we should be doing is working to stabilize things in these other countries. It spreads to the US so maybe residents will understand why we need a presence in other countries.
