A prosecutor will generally not charge a case he cannot win. You must have evidence--not just evidence, but really, you need proof.

If the victims refused to testify, it would be difficult to get a conviction. Did they refuse? Were they compromised by payoffs?

There are a lot of cases prosecutors feel have guilty perps--but do not prosecute because they do not have a solid case. They have to concentrate on cases that will result in conviction.

I doubt Acosta was paid off.

I suspect the victims were tricked into believing they cannot testify due to having signed NDAs or received settlements. Those absolutely do not bind anyone in the event of criminal activity and that needs to be made very clear and be heard by the victims. The harder part is in protecting the victims from potential reprisals or dealing with whether they may have received threats. As long as Trump is in power that is a specter that will hang over everything.

Trump was not in power when Epstein was initially charged by Acosta. He was not in power from Jan 2021-Jan 2025, either. Epstein was jailed during the Trump administration.

Epstein was "suicided" on August 10, 2019 when trump was president.

Epstein believed that Trump turned him in in the initial (2008?) prosecution as revenge for the real estate transaction they were competing over. Trump was the “dog that didn’t bark,” presumably in the sense that his name didn’t come up during those investigations when it would have been expected to come up. The silence about Trump made Epstein believe that Trump cut some kind of deal behind the scenes to give dirt on Epstein in return for keeping Trump out of the investigation.

So I can see where there’s a small kernel of truth behind the “working with the FBI” claims. If I remember right, didn’t the “undercover” myth first come from Trump’s circle itself? At the time I thought they were spinning desperately and hoping to see what sticks, but now with the “dog that didn’t bark” stuff, I wonder if they were working from the knowledge that Trump DID give inside info in 2008. Still, there’s a long way between actually working for the FBI and a co-conspirator who cuts a deal to keep his own sleaze quiet in return for giving info.
