ECNL moving to school year not calendar

If ECNL tries to bring on SY earlier it will likely push players to BY leagues if MLSN + GA stays BY.

Anyone listen to the podcast today? Any insights that can help end this never ending thread of speculation?

OR they will get players from MLSN and GA

Podcast said zero about the change…
I would not look for ECNL to put out any statement at all, it will be all US Soccer to lead the way at this point.

Thanks, not a single hit. I usually use Chatgbt to summarize but I like this old school approach.

U.S. Soccer will formally approve the implementation process in the coming weeks following feedback from members and stakeholders on a draft version of the plan. We anticipate these next steps will conclude by the 2025 AGM (2/27/2025-3/2/2025) and be communicated to the ecosystem immediately after.

We will know something by March for sure, we should see something formal from USSF soon, before the end of the year. To me this is good news, and makes me hopeful for a system that benefits most.

Where is the info about US Club making a statement before the end of 2024?

USSF already clearly indicated this months ago in their communication. Many ECNL clubs have already communicated the same.

No, many ECNL clubs only got the USSF press release and have communicated that they haven't heard otherwise from US Club. They are all working on the rules and procedures of how the change will take place.

Are there still people who believe something is going to change for next year?

I don't personally believe anything will happen next year. However I do think for my 2014 fall birthday kid there is a chance that is US Club Soccer Announces definitive changes in 2026 that will affect the pre-ecnl team structure in 2025, so even announcing definitive changes in 2026 will likely affect how some clubs structure teams even next year.

Now I know that is not true. All clubs have a memo that say we will be back to you by March.

💯 this!
With this development ECNL has to now also retain a BY option (and stay aligned to national & international standards) or they will lose their top players & teams.
Or maybe the breakdown in youth soccer will now be be ECNL (SY) becomes largely the REC level league and MSLN-GA (BY) is where the highly competitive players go (as already occurring on the boys side).
