Tahoe Vacation Home

Anonymous
We are looking to purchase a family vacation home with our parents. Basically we have parents and several siblings pooling their assets for a shared family getaway. We'll have a lawyer dictating the rules of use and how to buy each other out and how liquidation or death will be handled.

We are looking for recommendations for the best locations for a quiet retreat in Tahoe and a realtor to help us find a suitable property.

We enjoy water sports in the summer, we swim in the lake in August, we paddleboard and sail, and enjoy things like the ropes course at Heavenly. We ski but are not big on that as much, but our siblings are big on skiing so still a factor.

We are thinking South Lake Tahoe, maybe even considering Nevada side but not sure we want the whole gambling scene -- we mostly want a quiet family and kid friendly getaway that maybe will be passed down for generations.

Thanks for any realtors who might guide our search.

Price is a bit of an unknown, probably up to $500k, looking for a SFH with four season livability.

North Lake is quieter and more family friendly. Take a look at Incline Village.

Look in South Lake Tahoe, definitely the Nevada side of Tahoe in any event. The cali property taxes are ridiculous on the north side.

I prefer the vibe around Tahoe City much more than South Tahoe. It’s much quieter and prettier.

I prefer the north but your budget won't go far up there

Definitely true, part of why South lake Tahoe was in the cards, but maybe we'll peak around North.

But no realtor recommendations?

Tell me about owning in Nevada; I associate it with LV and Reno so not sure how it is for long term?

Looking at North Tahoe area, what about areas like Truckee or such, a bit further but nice little towns?

Are you always this rude? You do know that people can visit a place many times, form an opinion about it, and have no idea about a realtor.

Tell me about why you think PP knows about owning in Nevada.

This is not the travel forum, it’s a regional forum for Bay Area. Wasn’t trying to be rude but I do have an objective for why I posted in this forum.

They recommended Incline Village, which is in Nevada

Do you definitely want Lake Tahoe? My parents own in Serene Lakes which is just west of Donner Summit. It has a lot of what you want, without the Tahoe crowds. No motor boats on the lake, though, only sail and paddle craft.

Where will folks be coming from? On weekends and holidays, traffic can be bad, so that might affect where you buy. We bought in Truckee because it is quicker on Friday nights.
