ECNL moving to school year not calendar

Spring will be interesting

Not until a week or two before the announcement. So not until the season is over. I was on the board of a club that switched. 5 people know until 1-2 weeks before. All was quiet until then.

They will market that if you are a Jan to July kid there are better development opportunities to play with them instead of ECNL.

We will probably see MLS/GA start a youth system as well because they need to continue to develop BY players.

This does seem likely, but I also would expect to see a lot of eye-rolling and poking fun behind people's backs about putting one's kids in these U-Little leagues. In a potential world where 90% of U-Little club soccer is SY, it's going to look nuts to race your 7-8 year old out of rec league and into a BY pre-professional league.

You will hear more in our next podcast…psych!

Can I back up? Why do we think that GA and MLS Next are doing all of this? I know the release yesterday and it seems like a good step but isn’t all of this guessing at this point?

Does this mean GA will add biobanding?

They are worried ECNL & US club will go SY and drain them of customers. MLS is basically broke and can't afford those kinds of losses. They are trying to back stop their subsciber base.

Podcast is out but doesn't have anything about age group change?

Yeah podcast, just trying to start PR campaign to block international players in college soccer and nothing on age cutoff.

Might be waiting for word from USSF in a week or so.

This is actually something that could happen. Limit to say 5 on international players but exempt Canada.

Not really. In the highly competitive area we live in every competitive edge is sought so if this is an option for younger development this is exactly what will happen.

Why do we think they did not mention this?

I think because there is no Ecnl position yet and Ecnl told them not to discuss.

So nothing about BY/SY like they promised last podcast?

Another L from ECNL. Does anyone else think something is up with them? No news about anything. Hopefully they have something up their sleeve.
