I wondered if that was the intent of the release yesterday. I saw a post on x that this merger was already announced in 2020, so I am not sure what to think about that.

There is no merger. That is not what was announced. What was announced is typical stuff that amounts to nothing but indicates that there is talking and maybe if it all works something real will be coming down the line. This was done in an effort to keep a number of clubs from leaving GA to ECNL after the season is over. This will not be the only thing. GA is doing everything it can to limit the number of clubs that switch. If they can do that and buy some time they think they can build -- maybe even something real with MLS. Worst case scenario for GA is that a number of clubs leave including the top ones. They are pulling out all the stops to make sure that does not happen. The discussions between ECNL and any clubs they want or that want them would start right after the first of the year. This is an effort to make those clubs stop and think.

That is the battle. GA making moves. Question is -- will it work?

What a narrative. The things people come up with in this dead period of actual work between Christmas and NYE is great.

They also missed that if MLSN and GA are one in the same. Going GA should also bring MLSN to clubs.

But it's not Christmas yet. Are you saying the content will get better in a week? *Reaching for popcorn*

I agree with part of your comment that GA has to pull these last few strings to keep clubs from leaving next year, but this move may have been to big to where now ECNL has some decisions to make.

Their best bet is to accept the top clubs from GA and end GA next year.

If they don’t snag any clubs from GA this coming year then ECNL is in trouble.

Some clubs may be told to go GA if they want to keep mls next… and if clubs are smart, they would do it.

A club like Bethesda that will likely never win in ecnl would benefit from going GA and keeping mls next.

This move was more for MLSN than it was for GA. ECNL has been trying to get MLSN clubs to join them. Which is a dumb move that’s like GA trying to get ECNL clubs to switch over. The best of both worlds is when a club has MLSN and ECNL but I think we are going to see ECNL looking for full membership down the line.

ECNL has been telling MLSN clubs join and we will let your RL/GA team join ECNL. Which is a tempting offer if it means clubs don’t have to deal with different SY/BY regulations and will vastly improve their girls programs.

What we will hear today is just a possible plan and how different cutoffs are decided. Also will talk about how BY/SY doesn’t make a kid any better for competing in over the other.

Will not get anything substantial today.

Desperate move from MLSN and GA.

The wrting is on the wall. Its ECNL US Club and AYSO running youth soccer in the US now.

Agreed, they'd be promoting the heck out of it if it was going to be anything else.

What we are going to see is the majority of soccer plying with SY cutoffs, MLSN/GA partnerships means they will try and be the platforms for national team players or hopefuls. They will market that if you are a Jan to July kid there are better development opportunities to play with them instead of ECNL.

We will probably see MLS/GA start a youth system as well because they need to continue to develop BY players.

Slippery slope for ECNL here. Boys programs bring in a lot of money too.

What’s more tempting?

League that focuses on 100% college only. Places a lot of girls into college but not really on the boys side?

League that can get you straight to the pros, college, and national team

When do the rumors of clubs jumping from league to league usually happen?

Spring will be interesting
