| What are your experiences with Super Y? Has it helped your DD or DS? |
Waste of time, money, and effort. I love the concept, but it was poorly coached. I might have liked it more if my DD’s exact team and coach had done it. |
| I think it was great the summer before U13 when she was making the transition from 8v8 to 11v11. That summer gave her an opportunity to be more prepared than some of her teammates when practice began in August. |

It is lie summer swimming for year round swimmers, the coach encourages you to take your vacations and not take it too seriously. Too many parents buy into the Washington Spirit model and expect great things but it is just a money maker for them. They also are all striving for the trip in December
It is great for our club and for the kids who are on the bubble of making a higher level team, it gives them exposure to better coaching and playing with better players. We have a large roster due to summer travel and the players and parents almost see it as down time which the coach encourages. How much money is your team that you feel it is a waste of money? |
*like summer swim |
| Its fine as long as they have enough players. Sometimes so many girls are away at camp that there are barely enough players to make the game even. We like it because it is fun to play with different girls, some of which are older. As PP said, it was especially useful the summer before switching to 11 v 11. |
The poor coaching. To me, any program is defined by who is coaching it. It was Brent something or other from McLean. |
It sounds like you are just trying to bash McLean, the season is currently going on and McLean doesn't have any teams playing this summer https://www.sylsoccer.com/clubs |
| I'll have to agree with the poster stating it's a waste of time. Competition isn't strong and NO one takes it seriously so you struggle to get consistency among the team. The travel can be a pain dealing with beach goers and ultimately, you'll miss 1/2 the games/practices due to vacation and other summer fun activities. Besides, it's good for the kids to take a break and regroup, no one wants to run when you can be hanging out at the pool on a hot day. Give it a try, we did and won't be going back. |
| Interesting perspective and useful information. I was researching this last night and was considering to have my DD tryout for this next Summer for U11. |
| I hate it, but I have to admit that the kids who did it came into the fall season a step ahead of the kids who didn't. |
We played McLean last weekend in Super Y...they just call themselves Northern Virginia Majestics instead. |
| Experience is highly dependent on the person doing the coaching and running the training sessions |
| Yes agree the Majestics are McLean. We've played on it before. |

I'm not trying to bash McLean. You're the one who asked for more info. If it had been Clyde Watson, maybe a different story. This guy isn't even a prominent coach, so who cares? He's coaching their CCL 2 team.
His drills were lackluster, and he wanted the kick ball/long ball game instead of possession. |
