Have any of you experienced awful nights sleeping with your partner for an extended period of time? My wife wakes me up, one way or another, every single night. She's either hot as a blast furnace or coughing or kicking me in her sleep or tossing/turning. I think she has major sleeping disorders, and when I talked with her Mom about this she just said, "oh yeah, she's never been a real big sleeper," like it was totally normal. WTF? How do you literally not sleep?
Facts: She is slightly overweight, does not exercise, and is an occasional smoker. She generally doesn't eat much before bed. I have tried for years to get her to see a sleep doctor in the area. We have some good ones. She got "burned" by an experience seeing one in Georgetown like 10 years ago and basically thinks its all hooey. Nyquil, sleeping meds don't seem to do a thing, either. She has told me she needs to get her thyroid checked, has told me that for nearly two years, and cant quite get there with the scheduling. Same story with the sleep doctors, and her mammogram. I'm a patient and tolerant man most of the time but I have been awoken by her between 3-5 am every night for the past two months and I'm starting to lose my shit. I thought when we had a kid 17 months ago that he would keep us up all night; quite the contrary, as he sleeps 8+ hours without waking every single night. I work from home and the lack of consistent sleep makes the prospect of napping-which I have never done-a real distraction during the day. |
| I have not slept well since my oldest child was born over two decades ago. I have seen doctors, tried meds, special pillows and bedding, sleep hygiene routines, blackout curtains, etc. Some women don't sleep deeply and still. How did you miss this before marriage? |
Bro, it's...it's you. |
| My wife talks in her sleep, often. It's really irritating because 1) it wakes me up and 2) then I can't help but try to figure out what the hell she's saying and dreaming about. |
| You don't have to sleep in the same room and bed. I've been sleeping in the guest room for a year, and it's great. I like a soft bed in a cool room. DH likes a firm bed in a warm room. The differences were taking a toll on our health. Much better now. |

Communication in a marriage is key. You should be able to say to your wife I love you but I need to sleep during the night. You keep waking me up. I'll be sleeping in the other room.
That does NOT mean you are taking intimacy off the table. DH and I watch tv, cuddle, and have sex. When it is time to sleep, we sleep in separate rooms. |
| You don't sound like a patient and tolerant man. You sound like a man who doesn't like his wife very much, honestly. |
As a man who also now sleeps in the other room, I didn't read this at all from op. He sounds like a man who needs sleep and has a partner with sleeping issues that are not being addressed. |
| hah. I'm pregnant and just can't sleep. DH travels extensively and I sleep SO much better when he's gone. I go to bed at 9:30 and fall asleep by 10. When he's home, we go to bed at midnight and i just can't get to sleep. I toss and turn for hours. I've tried getting him to sleep earlier, he won't. I've tried falling asleep without him and I can't. I just feel like a perpetually tired person. I can't wait until he travels again. |
| we sleep in separate beds and its great. |
| I have my own room. |

Bro, it's...it's you. I feel like these sorts of shitposts are the bread 'n' butter of DCUM. |

I'm showing this thread to DH! I feel terrible that I keep waking him up (if I roll over, pull the blanket, etc). And then he wakes *me* up by asking me if I'm ok every time I move.
I have offered to sleep in another room or let him, whichever he'd rather, but he insists we have to sleep together. We don't have a guest room, but at least on the couch no one will whisper at me and no one will be pulling his covers off! |
| We have our rooms. It is wonderful! |
| I started sleeping apart from DH two years ago. I am so much better rested and happier. |
