If the Cogat and/or WISC were 106, then it would be very hard to believe that the child should be in AAP. But the NNAT is such a strange test, it has very little value at all. It certainly wouldn't be a travesty for a child with a 106 NNAT and other higher scores to be admitted. |

I have 3 dc in AAP, all in on first round
15 yo: NNAt was 115, cogat average was in the 150s IIRC 12 yo: NNAT was 110, cogat average was around 132 9 yo: NNAT was 100, cogat average was around 125, WISC was 113 so we didn't submit that. Our base school is terrible hence pushing the youngest to the center when frankly he would be fine at the base school. |
| NNAT is a test uniquely susceptible to test prep so its scores are pretty meaningless IMO. |
I probably shouldn’t admit this, but my child got in with a 108 nnat. DC was principal placed. I would never disclose that to parents at the school. |
"Principal placed" is not "getting in" |
| My child had an Nnat 108 from a different year. Cogat was 136. I feel badly that these kids did not get the cogat test. |
| I’m trying to decide if it’s even worth appealing with an NNAT of 106. There was no CogAt this year and doing external testing is not feasible for us. How can a child be judged by a score that is just a snapshot of a day 18 months ago? My child had DRA of 30 in the fall, all 4’s on progress reports the entire year, iReady scores above grade level. That is all the information I have available to me. |
Well, he's in level IV. I don't know what to tell you, it's on his report card. Also, he is eligible to attend the AAP center school. |
Providence is Title 1 and Local Level IV. I believe they usually have a large % of students who stay instead of going to the center. |
What is his or her 2nd grade GBRS score? A lot of emphasis is being placed on GBRS scores this year. |
| It took me a few minutes to figure it out since there is no score, but from looking on here I learned how to interpret it. My child has 3F’s and 1 O. Seems to me it will be useless to try and appeal, but it seems very unfair that kids this year were judged on NNAT and gbrs from a panel that only knows kids virtually. It is what it is I guess |
Agree so much. |
| I also agree, but with no CogAt this year it’s the only screening test they used. Unless you’re a part of the privileged group that can do a private WISC, your kid is stuck with a test from 18 months ago and a gbrs from a panel who doesn’t know your child due to virtual learning. |
My kids both did not prep and both got the exact same score to the point. I don't think it's meaningless - it seems pretty damn reliable |
Principal placed means that they are in the Local Level IV program because the Principal placed them there. Level IV will be checked on the report card. Only kids selected by the Committee can attend Centers, not Principal Paced kids. |
