So, if this is what you think and feel then why even bother coming here and posting on a board for VRSC?

you are forgetting what is likely the largest group: club staff and coaches. this is a guess but i wouldn't be surprised if 50 percent of the posts on the form come from people directly employed by clubs. i know for a fact that the larger clubs have a strategy to use this forum to spread information about their club, or mis-information about others.

Sadly VRSC have been moving their top teams out of the higher NCSL divisions and dropping them to level 3&4. Same as tournaments where VRSC has been moving themselves down in tournament pools simply so they can post better records and claim “championships.” That’s Nico’s path to relevancy apparently - either buy it or lower the level of competition.

Meanwhile Loudoun is pushing their kids up (eg 2014s playing 9v9 vs 2013s this spring) where they aren’t worrying about scores but focusing on development and pushing their players to grow (although they’ve done quite well playing up in 2nd NCSL division).

Wow, glad to know you know all of the teams so well at VRSC. Also, you might want to get the spelling of Niko's name correct.

My son plays on the top team (black team) in his age group he played EDP in the fall this year NCSL in the spring. The past 2 years he played EDP both fall and spring. EDP didn't have a spring schedule of games this year. Their team was not dropped down to lower divisions in tournaments. They just played the Potomac Tournament (the tournament placed them not our club) they won their championship for their division. He is not on the 2014 team by the way! His team has never been dropped down a division in a tournament just to get a "win". They are competitive and are improving each year, their team did win against the Loudoun team in their league play this year. Just saying VRSC is out there being a little more competitive than all of you haters out there would like them to be!

Thats great for VRSC, congrats on the wins! As an outsider, I'm curious which Loudoun team did they beat?
We have offers to both - still open FWIW - but at my son's age group it appears VRSCs "Black" team played LS "City" team - which by my research is the #3 team. I am most focused on development, but I'm hesitant to put my son on a top team who's playing against #3 teams from other clubs as I don't think that will make them better.

That goes in both directions. Loudoun's lower teams are playing top or second teams at other clubs. Very challenging, especially in the levels where the teams are basically money grabs.

Right. After more research it looks like they also played Great Falls, Potomac, OBGC, and Valor first teams. And NCSL put in LS #3/#4. Doubt those clubs are requesting to play those LS teams (I think they have 6 u9 teams, no other club has that so they have to play someone).

just calling a spade a spade. Winning championships and beating Loudoun is fun but come on, if it's against another club's 3rd team with your 1st team is that really an accomplishment?

Come watch that team some time and look at their talent and you decide. Just because they don't go play for your almight LS soccer doesn't mean they aren't good. There is a lot of talent out there that doesn't want to play for the "Red". Maybe if they played the "top" "red" teams they might beat them.

I 100% disagree and I am a LS parent. It does not matter if it is VRSC #1 vs LS #3. LS has 5-6 teams in some age groups it is possible that LS#3 team is as good as the VRSC #1 team. It does not mean the VRSC #1 team is bad...it just means at this time in the clubs development VRSC #1 teams are competing with big clubs #2 and #3 teams...such is life

When choosing a club choose the team that fits you and your child, whatever that is. Chances are you DD does not have the ability to play on LS NVA team, that does not make her a bad soccer player. It just puts her in with the other 90% of youth soccer players the top ECNL team is meant to be the top 5-10% best players in the area.

No need to constantly compare clubs to each other, just join the club that fits your vibe.

never said they weren't good, I'm just saying beating ANY club's 3rd team isn't an accomplishment

If you take a quick look at U9B for NCSL this spring you can see that VRSC Black was playing LS City and they had similar schedules. Just by this you can assume that VRSC #1 team = LS #3 in most cases. I think parents who dont see this are drinking the kool-aid. This by no means is a swipe at your child. If the kid wants to get to the level where they are at a top club playing top teams then they need to work for it. Nothing wrong with that.

This is exactly what happened on the girls side. VRSC got Girls Academy and formed two completely new teams that will be comparable to LS #1 and LS #2. The existing VRSC Black team remains #3 in NCSL.

It's not useful to compare teams from clubs of different sizes based on their order in the club. Makes more sense to compare teams in similar leagues. Compare NCSL teams with NCSL, RL/EDP teams, GA/ECNL/MLSN teams.

they're correct but that's not how the club is going to market it - they're not going to say, "come join our 3rd tier team", they're going to say "come join our top team"

They do have some kids there that have the talent for that level of play but their parents are sick and tired of the crap that comes with the clubs like LS so they left. Not everyone is willing to stay and play the kiss a games.

You might be surprised how many parents will change clubs just to be on the "top team" regardless of how they match up or what league they play in. Mostly younger travel ages.

This. 90% of travel parents are in it for the bragging rights with decently talented kids that can't make top teams or even em second teams at other clubs that are larger and been around decades.
