What are you even talking about with your 20% increase? Locally, we are heading to the second worst wave ever (currently at about last year's peak already, with New Years to go). And cases all year round - unlike the flu. |
17% increase in hospitalizations nationally over the last two weeks. In Maryland, it's only 8%. Deaths and even ICU admissions have remained low for nearly two years. There's no spike, just a small increase. We've seen spikes before-- December 2020 and January 2022-- and this looks nothing like those. |
No, nobody anywhere is in the “second worst wave ever.” |

I feel like they both help |
Agreed. The "second worst wave ever" claim stems from a misinterpretation of wastewater data. From a different thread: The "second largest wave" argument centers on wastewater readings. While WW is useful for seeing trends, it is not able to provide precise estimates of caseload magnitude. Many things can influence WW readings. Different variants can cause differing amounts of shedding and have shorter/longer windows for PCR confirmation. WW testing is also evolving, with improved methods of concentration and extraction being used, which could account for greater detection relative to prior years. WW readings should be used in concert with other indicators to assess trends and should not be used as an absolute caseload measure. The key variables that matter are covid hospitalizations and deaths which are currently the smallest they have been in the winter season since covid emerged. Peoples value to vaccinate has contributed to the reason why we are in the second worst Covid wave ever per the CDC. Check out CNN’s website. |
* peoples’ failure to vaccinate… |
The booster does not stop transmission. |
The booster doesn’t stop transmission and it doesn’t appear to make any difference. Vaccinated and unvaccinated in our home and everyone got covid for Christmas. It was low grade fever for a day and scratchy throat. It was basically a head cold with a fever. |
How does vaccinating help if it doesn't stop transmission? |
It makes the people with medical anxiety feel safer. |
Sounds like solid science to me. |
Do you get a flu shot? Did your kids (assuming you have them, since you're here) get MMR, DTaP? I guess what I'm asking is: are you stupid across the board, or just about this? |
People declining the covid vaccine update should wake up and smell the coffee! |
