Only ~14% Of U.S. Adults Have Gotten Latest Covid-19 Vaccine Update

Anonymous
i got the flu shot, covid and shingles all at once, no problems.

Historically only about 35% of adults get the flu shot a year anyway. It's 36% this year. I mean why go in for the flu shot and then not get the COVID shot, it's silly.

But adults (18-64) have a low rate of vaccines in general.

It's odd that the 65 and older crowd get the flu vaccine at about 65% and are on pace to do that, but don't get the COVID shot while they are there.

Yes.

https://www.cdc.gov/

Interesting. I checked the link and my county hospital admission rates (not the DMV). Then I randomly checked a number of other states/counties. All appear to be low. I don't know about the death statistic but overall COVID action appears to be very low.

It is low. The PP that I was responding to asked if “ANYONE is actually dying from COVID anymore “ — and the answer to that is:Yes. I think respiratory illness rates have been rising in recent weeks, and my guess is that some of that will be COVID, and some of THAT will be mild. I don’t think we really know yet, though, if there will be predictable patterns. And then there’s whatever illness(es) they’re now dealing with in China….

It is low but it's about 1/2 of what the flu shot usually is at this point.

Covid is not shingles

+1 You seriously cannot think this will protect you from shingles. That is a vaccine I will begrudgingly get because I don't want shingles even though the vaccine will suck.

I don't care if I get Covid.

Do people die from shingles?

No, but with everyone getting covid so frequently, their immune systems are shot and the rate of shingles is much higher than typical now, especially in younger ones who typically do not get shingles.
Long covid is real and we are just starting to see the tip of the iceberg on what that might mean for the future.

I for one would prefer to avoid that.

FFS. The stupid is getting worse on this site. Many people got Shingles POST COVID because your immune system is hit so hard.

Same, all for free, at the supermarket. I did plan ahead to do it on a Friday before a quiet weekend. I think that's key. I do need a bit more sleep and downtime after feeling awful for a few hours. Better than being down for days and days later.

NP. I got shingles right after getting the covid vaccine. I had a long-term reaction to the covid vax (not even including no period for four months) - getting covid itself was much milder (admittedly I had already had the bad so maybe it would otherwise have been worse).

For me, the Covid shot made me feel awful for 36 hours. I still got it, but it’s not fun. The flu shot causes no problems for me.

I did it on Wednesday hoping I'd be sick and could take sick leave from work. No luck.

Are you a fed? We still can take 2 days of administration leave to recover from COVID shot and on top of that can use 4hrs of admin leave to go get shot.

My parent recently died of covid, but they had multiple boosters, including one recently.

I’m sorry for your loss. Do you mind sharing how old they were?

I wish I had gotten it. I’m sick as a dog right now going on day 3. DH still has a fever going on day 4. We must have picked it up on thanksgiving. I don’t know how much the booster would help but even if it took off an extra day being sick, it would be worth it.

About 36,000 people die of the flu/year... <1%
About 180,000 people die of COVID per year (at the current rate) that is 3% of people that get COVID.

Where are you getting 180,000 from? We leveled off around 1,000 covid deaths per week. That's roughly the same as a bad flu year.
